1. Low-frequency noise characterization, evaluation and modeling of advanced Si- and SiGe-based CMOS transistors
Sammanfattning : A wide variety of novel complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) devices that are strong contenders for future high-speed and low-noise RF circuits have been evaluated by means of static electrical measurements and low-frequency noise characterizations in this thesis. These novel field-effect transistors (FETs) include (i) compressively strained SiGe channel pMOSFETs, (ii) tensile strained Si nMOSFETs, (iii) MOSFETs with high-k gate dielectrics, (iv) metal gate and (v) silicon-on-insulator (SOI) devices. 2. Energy expenditure and substrate utilization during critical illness
Sammanfattning : Background: Critical illness leads to major alterations in metabolism. The net result is a state where catabolism predominates over anabolism. The associated loss of lean body mass is significant and potentially harmful. It is commonly held that providing calories and protein from nutrition may attenuate this response. LÄS MER
3. Characterization of Magnetic Nanoscale Systems: From Molecules to Particles and Self-Assembled Chains
Sammanfattning : This thesis characterizes magnetic nanoscale systems with increasing size and aspect ratio using synchrotron radiation-based spectroscopy and microscopy techniques, combined with conventional magnetometry. The systems studied are molecular magnets, bimagnetic nanoparticles and self-assembled magnetic nanochains. LÄS MER
4. Ferroelectric Thin Films on Si-substrate for Tunable Microwave Applications
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents the development of microwave tunable devices based onferroelectric thin films. The main tasks in this work are the fabrication, optimization, andintegration of ferroelectric thin film into Si-MMIC. LÄS MER
5. Toward Energy-efficient Physical Vapor Deposition : Routes for Replacing Substrate Heating during Magnetron Sputtering by Employing Metal Ion Irradiation
Sammanfattning : In this Thesis, magnetron sputtering is perfected as an environmental-friendly deposition technique. I performed systematic studies of a novel approach - hybrid high-power impulse and dc magnetron co-sputtering (HiPIMS/DCMS) with metal-ion-synchronized substrate bias pulses. LÄS MER
