  1. 1. Semi-natural meadows in southern Sweden - changes over time and the relationship between nitrogen supply and management

    Författare :Gudrun A I Berlin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant community dynamic; Nitrogen; Mowing; Meadows; Management; Long-term study; Landscape changes; Field experiment; Community diversity; Fertilisation; Species changes; Species turnover; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I have studied continuously managed semi-natural meadows in south-central Sweden. The purpose was 1) to make a survey of meadow vegetation in the region 2) to compare two investigations of the vegetation, one from 1963-1966 and one from 1990 3) to investigate experimentally in the field how increased nitrogen supply rate as well as changed management intensity effects the nitrogen economy and species richness in two meadow communities. 2. 2. Reproductive strategies and liming responses in forest field-layer flora

    Författare :Annika Kruuse af Verchou; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; species turnover; species richness; sexual reproduction; podzol; pH; Lamiastrum galeobdolon; forest liming; demography; Cambisol; clonal plants; SRE; vegetative reproduction; VRE; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Liming increased species richness, in accordance with the species pool hypothesis, and number of plants of individual species in beech forest field-layer vegetation, by increasing establishment by seedlings and vegetative offspring. Turnover rates also increased, suggesting the explanatory value of the carousel model. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Metapopulation and metacommunity processes, dispersal strategies and life-history trade-offs in epiphytes

    Författare :Swantje Löbel; Håkan Rydin; Tord Snäll; Lars E. Ericson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; asexual; biodiversity; bryophytes; dispersal limitation; establishment; evolution of reproductive traits; germination; growth; habitat fragmentation; landscape dynamics; local processes; patch-tracking; pH; reproduction; species richness; species interactions; Other biology; Övrig biologi; Ecological Botany; Ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about metapopulation and metacommunity processes in patchy, dynamic landscapes, using epiphytic bryophytes as a model system. Host trees and deciduous forest stands in the coniferous landscape are patchy, temporal and undergo changes in habitat quality during succession. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The effects of cyclosporin A on bone turnover and repair

    Författare :Anders Ekelund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Cyclosporin A; osteoinduction; osteoconduction; bone turnover; fracture healing; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : The effects of cyclosporin A on bone metabolism are unclear and controversial. The aims of this thesis were to study the effects of cyclosporin A on bone turnover and on different repair processes such as fracture healing, osteoinduction and osteoconduction. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Advancing systems biology of yeast through machine learning and comparative genomics

    Författare :Le Yuan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; enzyme turnover number; gene essentiality; horizontal gene transfer; machine learning; deep learning; yeast species;

    Sammanfattning : Synthetic biology has played a pivotal role in accomplishing the production of high value commodities, pharmaceuticals, and bulk chemicals. Fueled by the breakthrough of synthetic biology and metabolic engineering, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and various other yeasts (such as Yarrowia lipolytica , Pichia pastoris ) have been proven to be promising microbial cell factories and are frequently used in scientific studies.
