  1. 11. Developmental origin and molecular regulation of vascular smooth muscle cells

    Författare :Per Wasteson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :smooth muscle cell; aorta; cell origin; lateral plate mesoderm; paraxial mesoderm; lipoma preferred partner; serum response factor; neointimal hyperplasia; angiotensin II; platelet-derived growth factor-B;

    Sammanfattning : Several pathologies of the vascular system have been suggested to be dependent on the smooth muscle cells (SMCs) that build up the vessel wall. Aortic SMCs have been proposed to derive from lateral plate mesoderm. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Function of contractile and cytoskeletal proteins in smooth muscle: Effects of hypertrophy and age and desmin removal in a transgenic animal

    Författare :Rolf Sjuve; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transgenic mouse; desmin; embryonic myosin; isoforms; myosin heavy chain; age; smooth muscle; hypertrophy; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In man, the urinary bladder responds to an urinary outflow obstruction with a pronounced dilatation and growth of the bladder wall. This clinical situation can be mimicked in rat by creation of a partial urinary outflow obstruction and the papers included in the present thesis use this animal model to address questions regarding the adaptive changes in the smooth muscle of the growing bladder. 3. 13. Role of NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T cells) in vascular smooth muscle

    Författare :Lisa Berglund; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vascular smooth muscle; proliferation; A-285222; osteopontin; AIF-1; diabetes; vascular disease; calcium; glucose; NFAT;

    Sammanfattning : The calcium-dependent transcription factor NFAT was first described as a key player in immune cell regulation. Since then, NFAT signaling has been shown to be crucial for normal vascular development during embryogenesis. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Regulation of gene expression in the vascular wall

    Författare :Erik Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :smooth muscle; endothelium; angiogenesis; SRF; myocardin; LPP; gene regulation; genetics; microRNA;

    Sammanfattning : Blood vessel growth and function are closely related to a number of pathological conditions, including tumor angiogenesis, wound healing and atherosclerosis. Smooth muscle cells (SMC) and endothelial cells (EC), the two major constituents of the vascular wall, are both characterized by the expression of unique phenotypic marker genes, many of which have vital roles in blood vessel development and disease. 5. 15. The role of smooth muscle cells in calcification of atherosclerotic plaques

    Författare :Till Seime; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Calcification (CALC) is a predominant feature of late-stage cardiovascular disease (CVD) but responsible mechanisms and its contribution to the risk of clinical events remain unclear. Formation of highly mineralized extracellular matrix (ECM) leads to progressive aortic valve stenosis (AVS) and has been identified as a surrogate marker for atherosclerotic disease burden. LÄS MER
