  1. 11. Sleep disordered breathing : Natural evolution and metabolism

    Författare :Ahmed Elmasry; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; snoring; sleep apnea; epidemiology; obesity; diabetes; catecholamines; hypertension; evolution; population-based; prospective; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Sleep disordered breathing is manifested by snoring and repeated episodes of apneas and hypopneas. The induced hypoxia and sleep fragmentation are thought to be responsible for many metabolic disturbances.In 1984, 3,201 men aged 30 to 69 answered a questionnaire on snoring, sleep disorders and somatic diseases. In 1994, 2,668 of the survivors (89. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Cardiovascular dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea

    Författare :Holger Kraiczi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea; blood pressure; cardiac size; left ventricular function; endothelium-dependent vasodilation; forearm vascular conductance; natriuretic peptides;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses relationships between the presence or severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and blood pressure (BP) as well as other signs of cardiovascular dysfunction.In a cross-sectional investigation of a sleep laboratory cohort of 81 patients, a dose response relationship was observed between the number of apneas plus hypopneas per hour of sleep (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI; measured with polysomnography) and office systolic and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), daytime ambulatory DBP as well as nighttime ambulatory SBP and DBP (all ambulatory measurements taken at 20-minute intervals). 3. 13. Obstructive sleep apnea and cardiovascular morbidity

    Författare :Yüksel Peker; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea; cardiovascular; hypertension; coronary artery disease; hospitalization; cost utility; morbidity; mortality; secondary prevention; angiotensin II; CPAP;

    Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects 24 % of middle-aged men and 9 % of women in USA but the treatment criterion, daytime sleepiness is reported by 17 and 22 % of these subjects, respectively. Some previous studies have suggested an association between OSA and cardiovascular disease (CVD), but the conclusions have been conflicting due to co-existing traditionally recognized risk factors. 4. 14. Outcomes and Implications of Nasal Measurements in Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    Författare :Hans Christian Hoel; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea OSA ; Respiratory system diagnostic technique; nasal obstruction; Sleep hypopnea; Rhinomanometry;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundObstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent disorder and symptoms of nasal obstruction are highly prevalent in OSA. Treatment of nasal obstruction in OSA patients has shown modest and variable outcomes in reducing the apnea hypopnea index (AHI), but significant improvements in other indicators, such as sleep quality and daytime sleepiness as well as reductions in arousals have been observed. 5. 15. Sleep disordered breathing at work : Cause and effects

    Författare :Jan Ulfberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Snoring; sleepiness; sleep apnea; epidemiology; organic solvents; work performance; occupational accidents; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; arbets- och miljömedicin; Occupational and Environmental Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The recent discovery of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) as a prevalent disorder has highlightedthe fact that snoring is not just a harmless noise. Snoring and OSAS in the work milieu has hardly beeninvestigated, which makes it important to identify both risk factors and consequences in the work place. LÄS MER
