11. Itch and Pain Inhibitory Mechanisms in Humans - evidence for a differential control of nociceptive senses
Sammanfattning : It is known that stimulation of thin nerve afferents can inhibit itch and pain and that the nociceptive systems have a detailed topographical organisation, with subsystems exhibiting specific excitatory and inhibitory receptive fields. On this basis, a new technique was developed, termed Cutaneous Field Stimulation (CFS), that electrically stimulates thin nerve fibers innervating specific skin fields. LÄS MER
12. Traditional lime mortar and plaster : Reconstruction with emphasis on durability
Sammanfattning : Lime mortar and plaster have been investigated with the aim to improve the knowledge on how to make them as durable as before the cement technology was developed. The background was the durability problems experienced for newly produced lime plaster on the medieval churches on the island of Gotland, Sweden. LÄS MER
13. The Rarebit fovea test : a new measure of visual function
Sammanfattning : Visual acuity (VA) measurement by the use of letter charts is the most frequently used method for testing foveal function. However, since a decimal visual acuity of 1. LÄS MER
14. Perceptual Surface Reconstruction
Sammanfattning : How does the brain transform the 2-D light arrays in our eyes into a meaningful 3-D description of surfaces around us? What assumptions does the visual system make about the world when information is incomplete? And how are these assumptions computationally expressed in this perceptual reconstruction process? These questions, and other aspects of binocular depth perception are analysed from a theoretical and computational perspective, as well as through empirical investigations. In paper one, the fundamentals of stereopsis are briefly reviewed, and the difficulties related with resolving the (stereo) correspondence problem are particularly discussed. LÄS MER
15. Human periodontal mechanoreceptors : functional properties and role in jaw motor control
Sammanfattning : Periodontal mechanoreceptors signal information about tooth loads to the central nervous system and are considered to be important for the control of oral motor behaviors, like biting and chewing. Surprisingly, very little is known about the functional properties of periodontal mechanoreceptors at posterior teeth. LÄS MER
