6. Spectral analysis of the heart rate variability : a methodological study
Sammanfattning : Heart rate and other cardiovascular variables are not steady but fluctuate over time. The evolution of computer technology the last 2 decades has made detailed analysis of the fluctuations possible and has focused the attention to the information content of the variability. LÄS MER
7. Renal function after transplantation of the liver and intestine
Sammanfattning : Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) after liver (LT) or intestinal (IT) transplantation may decrease patient survival. Calcineurin inhibitors (CNI) play a major role in its development. Aims: Describe long term renal function and risk factors for developing CKD in adults and children after LT and IT. LÄS MER
8. Cardiovascular effects of growth hormone. Studies in genetically engineered mice
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to enhance the understanding on the relationships between growth hormone (GH) and cardiovascular disease using genetically engineered mice. More specifically the effects of GH on blood pressure (BP), vascular and cardiac function, atherosclerosis and autonomic control of heart rate were studied. LÄS MER
9. Sleep disordered breathing and hemodynamic function
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the association between sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and hemodynamic function. A cross sectional study in a sleep laboratory cohort (n=1190) demonstrated a dose-response relationship between the severity of SDB, expressed as respiratory disturbance index (RDI), and office blood pressure, heart rate, and the risk of hypertension. 10. Function and morbidity of the esophagus and respiratory system in the growing child with esophageal atresia
Sammanfattning : Background: Esophageal atresia (EA) is a congenital malformation that consists of various degrees of discontinuity of the esophagus and affects about 1:3000 live births. EA is usually corrected at birth with survival rates over 90%, which has shifted the focus towards improvement of associated morbidity and health-related quality of life. LÄS MER
