16. Baltic shore-lands facing climate change
Sammanfattning : This thesis provides new insight concerning drivers behind differences in arthropod diversity and abundance in Baltic shore ecosystems and how the arthropod communities might be affected when the conditions in the Baltic Sea are altered due to climate change. The focus has been on climate related changes that are unique for coastal ecosystems, especially sea level rise and changes in the inflow of marine nutrients. LÄS MER
17. External Mycelia of Mycorrhizal Fungi - responses to elevated N in forest ecosystems
Sammanfattning : Most plants live in symbiosis with mycorrhizal fungi. Mycorrhizal roots constitute the interface between the plant and the soil, and almost every fine root of forest trees in nitrogen-limited boreal and temperate forests is colonised by ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi. LÄS MER
18. Wild vegetables and micronutrient nutrition : Studies on the significance of wild vegetables in women's diets in Vietnam
Sammanfattning : The principal aim has been to investigate the contemporary role and importance of edible wild plants in the diets of women in different agro-ecological regions of Vietnam. Field studies were undertaken in four villages in the Mekong Delta (MD) and the Central Highlands (CH) in 1995-1999. LÄS MER
19. Studies of the physiological status of bacteria used for environmental applications
Sammanfattning : Today, it is difficult to study the physiological status of inoculants in complex environments, such as soil. In this thesis, we describe the combined use of marker genes and viability stains to determine the physiological status of the bacterial cells in pure cultures and in soil. LÄS MER
20. Plant ecological studies related to restoration of a degraded ecosystem in central Tanzania
Sammanfattning : Kondoa Irangi area is among the most degraded ecosystems in Central Tanzania as a result of heavygrazing, fire, collection of fuelwood and improper cultivation practices. The restoration process of thisdegraded ecosystem through natural regeneration is slowed by the semi-arid climate of the area combinedwith poor soil nutrient status. LÄS MER
