  1. 1. Solar radiation effects on decomposition and decomposers of plant litter in lakes

    Författare :Måns Denward; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glucosidase; photo inhibition; photo oxidation; littoral; lakes; ergosterol; fungi; phragmites; bacteria; UV-B; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes the results of a series of experiments, from test tube up to field study scale, performed to increase the understanding of solar radiation effects on decomposition and microbial decomposers of plant litter in stagnant water of littoral zones. In conclusion, I suggest that fungi play a significant role in the decomposition of plant litter submersed in lakes, and that their distribution is dependent on detritus quality and water chemistry, but also tends to be inversely related to the occurrence of bacteria attached to the litter. 2. 2. Inhibition of light-induced colour reversion of wood-containing papers by means of coating

    Författare :Helena Fjellström; Hans Höglund; Magnus Paulsson; Arthur Ragauskas; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High-yield pulp; CTMP; birch; light-induced; ageing; photo-stabilising; lignin; coating; pigment; kaolin; calcium carbonate; titanium dioxide; binder; FWA; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis was to find ways to maintain a low level of light‐induceddiscolouration at an increased addition of mechanical and chemimechanical pulps in coated highqualityfine paper and magazine paper grades. Current technology allows the production of highyieldpulps such as thermomechanical and chemimechanical pulps with properties suitable formanufacturing high‐quality paper or paperboard with a low basis weight. 3. 3. The cyanobacterial pigments scytonemin and nostodione A - Synthesis, photophysicochemical behavior and biological studies

    Författare :Andreas Ekebergh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UV-screeners; design of experiments; cascade reactions; palladium catalysis; nostodione A; ligand effect; gold catalysis; kinase inhibitor; Scytonemin; photo-stability;

    Sammanfattning : The natural UV-screener scytonemin is found in a plethora of cyanobacterial species. Its UV-protective ability allows the bacteria to thrive in inhospitable locations exposed to intense solar radiation. Scytonemin has a dimeric structure consisting of two 1-1' linked 3-(4-hydroxybenzylidene)cyclopenta[b]indole-2-one moieties. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of the ribosomal RNA transcription by c-MYC oncoprotein

    Författare :Azadeh Arabi; Anthony Wright; Robert White; Södertörns högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Myc; Nucleolus; Proteasome; RNA Polymerase; Cancer;

    Sammanfattning : The transcription factor c-Myc is a key regulator of growth and proliferation. c-Myc levels are tightly controlled and deregulated c-Myc is often associated with human cancers. In our initial studies we observed that upon inhibition of proteasomes, excess c-Myc accumulates primarily in the nucleoli. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Using Light to Regulate the Activity of RET Kinase: Design, synthesis and evaluation of photoswitchable DFG-out RET kinase inhibitors

    Författare :Yongjin Xu; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RET kinase; kinase inhibitor; DFG-out; photoparmacology; azoheteroarene; Buchwald-Hartwig coupling; quinoline; 7-azaindole;

    Sammanfattning : Protein kinases are essential for signal transduction and regulate most cellular processes, such as metabolism, membrane transport, motility, and cell cycle. Although they play a critical role in cells and have a strong association with diseases, details of their physiologic and pathologic mechanisms remain at least partially unclear, especially the spatiotemporal dynamics of the signalling.
