1. Alloy Plasmonics - Fundamentals and Application in Catalysis
Sammanfattning : Alloys have for a long time been important in the development of our society; from the bronze age, where man learned how to alloy copper with tin, to today, where many products are made of steel and aluminum alloys. Similarly, but maybe not as generally well known, also in heterogeneous catalysis alloys are explored to develop solutions to increase activity and selectivity of chemical processes. LÄS MER
2. Nanoplasmonic sensing: from biology to catalysis
Sammanfattning : Our continuously increasing concerns about our health, safety, environment and climate has brought about a need for more sophisticated sensors that enable reliable detection of a variety of events. Sensors are today omnipresent in daily life. LÄS MER
3. The cyanobacterial pigments scytonemin and nostodione A - Synthesis, photophysicochemical behavior and biological studies
Sammanfattning : The natural UV-screener scytonemin is found in a plethora of cyanobacterial species. Its UV-protective ability allows the bacteria to thrive in inhospitable locations exposed to intense solar radiation. Scytonemin has a dimeric structure consisting of two 1-1' linked 3-(4-hydroxybenzylidene)cyclopenta[b]indole-2-one moieties. LÄS MER
4. Oxidation and Reconstructions of Alloy Model Catalysts : Platinum-Rhodium and Palladium-Gold
Sammanfattning : Alloys and bimetallic systems have shown many advantages in heterogeneous catalysis, but the details of their catalytic functions are not always known. For instance, the atomic details about surface reconstructions under catalytic reaction conditions, or which phases that are high-active or low-active. LÄS MER
5. Supported Mono- and Bimetallic Gold Nanoparticle Catalysts for Different Organic Transformations
Sammanfattning : Supported gold nanoparticles are emerging as an important class of catalysts for various organic transformations due to their tunable properties. This thesis embraces the fundamental studies of supported gold nanoparticles for different organic reactions from the viewpoint of understanding the role of synthesis methods, nature of carriers, and addition of second metal on the properties and functions of gold catalysts.
