  1. 1. Ectomycorrhizal fungi: Their role in nitrogen retention and carbon sequestration in northern coniferous forests

    Författare :Adam Bahr; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ectomycorrhizal fungi; Carbon sequestration; Nitrogen deposition; Nitrogen leakage; Field survey; Boreo-nemoral forest; Boreal Forest; Ergosterol; Free ergosterol; Mesh-bags; Multivariate analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Almost all northern forest tree species live in symbioses with ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF). The trees allocate up to half of the photoassimilated carbon (C) through the roots to EMF. In return EMF deliver nutrients from both inorganic and organic sources in the soil, as well as water. 2. 2. Calorimetric methods for the study of fungi on building materials

    Författare :Yujing Li; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fungal growth; fungal activity; ergosterol; humidity; temperature; calorespirometry; oxygen; mätmetoder; röta; svamp; byggmaterial; påväxt; kalorimetri; microcalorimetry; isothermal calorimetry; Fungi; building materials; mould; Serpula lacrymans; rot fungi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this project is to study the fungal growth habits on building materials as a function of humidity, temperature and other environmental parameters. The method of calorimetry is used as a way to quantify fungal activity on building materials. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Microorganisms in the Indoor Environment Analysis and Structure-Bioactivity Relationships

    Författare :Anita Saraf; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Limulus assay; bioactivity; ergosterol; muramic acid; LPS; organic dust; GC-MS; GC-MSMS; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Inhalation of air-borne microorganisms and components thereof can cause illnesses and diseases. However, lack of specific and sensitive methods for exposure assessment can pose problems in predicting health outcomes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Interactions between Bacteria and Fungi on Aquatic Detritus – Causes and Consequences

    Författare :Cecilia Mille-Lindblom; Lars Tranvik; Helmut Fischer; Eric Chauvet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; bacteria; fungi; decomposition; antagonism; extracellular enzymes; competition; macrophytes; dissolved organic carbon DOC ; ergosterol; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria and fungi dominate the decomposition of aquatic plants, a major process in the carbon and nutrient cycling in many aquatic systems. Although phylogenetically distant, bacteria and fungi often live in close proximity with each other. Since these microorganisms also have similar ecological functions, interactions have developed between them. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mycotoxins in indoor environments. Determination using mass spectrometry

    Författare :Erica Bloom; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gas chromatography; Mass spectrometry; Mycotoxin; Indoor Air; Ergosterol.; Mold; High pressure liquid chromatography; Dust; Building materials;

    Sammanfattning : Dampness in indoor environments may cause various health problems. The specific causative agent(s) are unknown but may originate from degradation processes in damp materials, microbial growth, or a combination of these phenomena. The health impact of dampness in buildings is a politically, legally, and economically important question. LÄS MER
