1. Regulation of the ribosomal RNA transcription by c-MYC oncoprotein
Sammanfattning : The transcription factor c-Myc is a key regulator of growth and proliferation. c-Myc levels are tightly controlled and deregulated c-Myc is often associated with human cancers. In our initial studies we observed that upon inhibition of proteasomes, excess c-Myc accumulates primarily in the nucleoli. LÄS MER
2. Analytical and Toxicological Aspects of Drug Incorporation into Human Hair
Sammanfattning : The overall purpose of this thesis was to develop analytical methods for the determination of drugs and melanin content of human hair for practical use in forensic and clinical toxicology. The thesis consists of five papers, two of which are controlled single dose studies where codeine or selegiline were administered to healthy volunteers. LÄS MER
3. Approaches to Pharmacological Treatment and Gene Therapy of Cystic Fibrosis
Sammanfattning : Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common lethal genetic disease in the white population. It is due to mutations in the gene coding for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), a protein that functions mainly as a cAMP-activated chloride channel. LÄS MER
4. Genetic Analysis of Quantitative Traits Using Domestic Animals : A Candidate Gene and Genome Scanning Approach
Sammanfattning : Domestication has led to genetic changes that affect quantitative traits in farm animals. Both candidate gene analysis using association tests and genome scans based on linkage analysis have been performed to understand the molecular basis underlying quantitative genetic variation in horses, pigs and chickens. 5. Stories of Old : The Imagined West and the Crisis of Historical Symbology in the 1970s
Sammanfattning : For all the criticism that has been leveled against cultural representations of the American West, ideas of the westward expansion and its significance have remained powerful impulses for the negotiation of history and identity. Such notions of the past, and the cultural symbology with which they can be expressed, are more or less available to writers and other cultural agents for employment in political, cultural, or literary discourse.
