  1. 1. Incidence trends and environmental determinants of type 1 diabetes in Lithuania and Sweden

    Författare :Auste Pundziute-Lyckå; Gisela Dahlquist; Brone Urbonaite; Hans Kristian Åkerblom; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; type 1 diabetes mellitus; epidemiology; childhood; incidence; secular trend; case-control study; risk factors; infections; energy; weight; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Variation of diabetes incidence over time in countries with different incidence levels and socio-economic conditions, and in an age span beyond the childhood years, may give clues for diabetes causes.Materials: Data from prospective type 1 diabetes registers in Sweden and Lithuania in children (0-14 years) and young adults (15-34 and 15-39 years, respectively). 2. 2. Neonatal water and heat exchange : The influence of environmental factors and infant maturity

    Författare :Gunnar Sjörs; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Neonatal; transepidermal water loss; respiratory water loss; radiant heat; heat exchange; water loss; incubators; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The environment provided by commonly used infant incubators, the effect of radiantheat and exposure to cold air on the exchange of water and heat between newborninfants and their environment, and the water loss through the skin of infants born at24-25 weeks of gestation were investigated. The evaporation of water from the skinwas measured by the gradient method. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Heart rate variability and pacemaker treatment in children with Fontan circulation

    Författare :Jenny Alenius Dahlqvist; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Jaana Pihkala; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Congenital heart disease; Fontan circulation; heart rate variability; pacemaker; sinus node dysfunction; pediatrik; Pediatrics; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Fontan surgery is performed in children with univentricular heart defects. Arrhythmias are frequent complications, occasionally requiring pacemaker treatment. Previous data regarding indications and risk factors for pacemaker treatment in Fontan patients is limited and conflicting. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of Delayed versus Early Cord Clamping on Healthy Term Infants

    Författare :Ola Andersson; Lena Hellström-Westas; Magnus Domellöf; Heike Rabe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; active management; birth; breast feeding; cord clamping; ferritin; growth; haemoglobin; human infant; infections; iron; iron deficiency; iron deficiency anemia; iron status; morbidity; neurodevelopment; randomised controlled trial; umbilical cord; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study maternal and infant effects of delayed cord clamping (≥180 seconds, DCC) compared to early (≤10 seconds, ECC) in a randomised controlled trial. Practice and guidelines regarding when to clamp the cord vary globally, and different meta-analyses have shown contradictory conclusions on benefits and disadvantages of DCC and ECC. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of iron supplementation on iron status, health and neurological development in marginally low birth weight infants

    Författare :Staffan Berglund; Magnus Domellöf; Olle Hernell; Michael K Georgieff; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Auditory brainstem response; behavior; breast feeding; cognition; erythropoietin; ferritin; growth; hemoglobin; hepcidin; human infant; iron; iron deficiency; iron deficiency anemia; iron status; iron supplementation; low birth weight; morbidity; neurodevelopment; nutritional requirements; randomized controlled trial; Pediatrics; pediatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Background Due to small iron stores and rapid growth during the first months of life, infants with low birth weight (LBW) are at risk of iron deficiency (ID). ID in infancy is associated with irreversible impaired neurodevelopment. LÄS MER
