  1. 1. The language learning infant: Effects of speech input, vocal output, and feedback

    Författare :Lisa Gustavsson; Francisco Lacerda; Roger Moore; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; human; language; language acquisition; perception; production; humanoid; development; model; embodied system; speech signal processing; vocal tract morphology; acoustic; speech input; information processing; scaling; interaction; growth; infant; imitation; feedback; perceptual salience; modeling; Phonetics; Fonetik; Phonetics; fonetik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis studies the characteristics of the acoustic signal in speech, especially in speech directed to infants and in infant vocal development, to gain insight on essential aspects of speech processing, speech production and communicative interaction in early language acquisition. Three sets of experimental studies are presented in this thesis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Care for the New-Born : Breastfeeding and Skin-to-Skin Contact

    Författare :Paola Oras; Eva-Lotta Funkquist; Lena Hellström Westas; Tomas Ljungberg; Kerstin Hedberg Nyqvist; Jonna Bornemark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Breastfeeding; Lactation; Human Milk; Newborn; Infant; Preterm Infant; Kangaroo Mother Care; Mother-infant interaction; Parent-Child Relations; Object Attachment; Self Efficacy; Implementation Science; Quality of healthcare; Quality improvement; Caring Sciences; Vårdvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Breastfeeding is associated with improved health in mothers and children and human milk is especially beneficial for preterm infants. The vast majority of pregnant women in Sweden intend to breastfeed, but breastfeeding rates are suboptimal, with even lower rates for preterm infants. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The human diving response : effects of temperature and training

    Författare :Erika Schagatay; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Djurfysiologi; pig; human; training; breath-holding time; breaking point; cold-receptors; arterial blood; vasoconstriction; bradycardia; diving reflex; diving response; Breath-hold diving; Animal physiology; simulated diving; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; Sports; Idrott; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to elucidate the cardiovascular response associated with breath-hold diving, especially the effects of temperature in its elicitation and the effects of different types of training on the human diving response (DR) and breath-holding time (BHT), and to evaluate the human DR in a mammalian perspective. A model for simulated diving by apnea and facial immersion in cold water was developed. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Early-life gut microbiota and breast milk oligosaccharides in relation to childhood immune maturation and allergy

    Författare :Ylva Margareta Sjögren; Eva Sverremark-Ekström; Outi Vaarala; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; allergy; infant; gut microbiota; human milk oligosaccharides; Bifidobacterium; Lactobacillus; Bacteroides fragilis; Clostridium difficile; family size; secretory IgA; toll like receptor; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Atopic allergy is the most common chronic disease among children in the developed world. This high prevalence could be associated with low microbial exposure. The early gut microbiota appears to be important for immune maturation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Analysis and human levels of persistent perfluorinated chemicals

    Författare :Anna Kärrman; Gunilla Lindström; Bert van Bavel; Ulf Järnberg; Jessika Hagberg; Lennart Hardell; Derek Muir; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; PFOS; PFOA; SPE; LC-MS; human exposure; Chemistry; Kemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : An extensive use of perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in the last 50 years has resulted in a worldwide spread of these persistent chemicals. Human populations are subjected to a large number of PFCs in ways that are not yet fully explained. LÄS MER
