6. Genetic studies of endocrine abdominal tumors
Sammanfattning : Pancreatic endocrine tumors (PETs) occur sporadically or in the familial multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) syndrome, whereas midgut carcinoids are nonfamilial, malignant endocrine tumors of the intestine. For these tumor entities morphological criteria are of limited use for prognostic prediction and selection of treatment. LÄS MER
7. Intraoperative scintigraphic detection of abdominal endocrine tumors : Development and evaluation of hand held gamma sensitive probes for¹¹¹In
Sammanfattning : Surgery of endocrine tumors benefit from accurate pre and- intraoperative localization methods, and scintigraphy has become an important contribution in this respect. In the present thesis therequisites for scintigraphic localization of abdominal endocrine tumors and new detectors forintraoperative gammadetection are evaluated. LÄS MER
8. Positron Emission Tomography in the Management of Neuroendocrine Tumors
Sammanfattning : Neuroendocrine tumors (NET´s) are often characterized by overproduction of peptide hormones. In spite of pronounced clinical symptoms, the tumor lesions can be small and difficult to detect. LÄS MER
9. Phospholipase C β3, and its role in endocrine tumorigenesis
Sammanfattning : The Phospholipase C β3 (PLCB3) gene is located on chromosome 11q13, in the vicinity of theMultiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) suppressor gene. PLCB3 has been implicated inendocrine tumorigenesis based on findings of low expression in endocrine tumors, and the probableexistence of other suppressor genes located at 11q13. LÄS MER
10. Mangafodipir trisodium (MnDPDP)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of the liver and pancreas
Sammanfattning : Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the liver and pancreas is frequently performed to improve the sensitivity and specificity of lesion detection in these organs. The concept of using tissue-specific contrast media is to selectively enhance the normal parenchyma, but not lesions, so that the contrast between tumorous and normal tissue is increased, and lesion detectability improved.
