21. Immune and autoimmune responses to HIV-1 in mucosa and other tissues
Sammanfattning : The aim of these studies was to evaluate routes and devices for administration of HIV-1 DNA vaccines. In particular we were interested in mucosal routes for the induction of immunity at mucosal surfaces. We studied the effects of a novel mucosal route, jet-injection, for induction of systemic and local responses. LÄS MER
22. Preclinical studies of ribozyme-mediated gene therapy for HIV-1
Sammanfattning : Approximately 40 million people are infected with HIV-1 and AIDS is the number one cause of death in Africa as well as, the fourth leading cause of death globally. Patients in developed countries generally receive highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), even though the drugs are expensive and sometimes cause side-effects and treatment failure. LÄS MER
23. Leukemia inhibitor factor (LIF) and gp130 in early defence against HIV-1 infection
Sammanfattning : Leukemia inhibitor factor (LIF) is a polyfunctional cytokine that belongs to the IL-6 family which mainly signals through the Jak/Stat pathway via the gp130/LIFR-α heterodimer. The focus of my research has been to investigate and understand if and how LIF exerts HIV1 suppressing activity. LÄS MER
24. Studies on experimental neonatal CNS infection : implications for neuropsychiatric disorders
Sammanfattning : Despite extensive research the etiologies of neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia remain obscure. It is currently believed that complex interactions between a number of genetic and environmental risk factors contribute to the development of these disorders. LÄS MER
25. In vivo and in vitro models for determination of antiviral activity and resistance
Sammanfattning : The AIDS epidemic has been the driving force for the discovery of substances that inhibit the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Much interest has earlier focused on a single gene product central to the life cycle of HIV and to all other retroviruses: the reverse transcriptase (RT), the enzyme responsible for synthesis of DNA from viral RNA.
