6. Pseudomyxoma Peritonei : Aspects of Natural History, Learning Curve, Treatment Outcome and Prognostic Factors
Sammanfattning : Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare disease characterized by mucinous peritoneal metastasis (PM). Different loco-regional treatment strategies, i.e. debulking surgery and cytoreductive surgery (CRS) in combination with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), have changed the prognosis for these patients. 7. Modeling Neural Stem Cell and Glioma Biology
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on neural stem cell (NSC) and glioma biology. I discuss how NSCs interact with extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins in the stem cell niche, and investigate the consequences of deregulated Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) signaling for embryonic NSCs in transgenic mice. 8. Cancer of the Colon and Rectum : Population Based Survival Analysis and Study on Adverse Effects of Radiation Therapy for Rectal Cancer
Sammanfattning : The Swedish Cancer Register was used to determine the relative survival rate in colon and rectal cancer and to estimate the occurrence of second cancers related to radiation therapy for rectal cancer. The Swedish Hospital Discharge Register and hospital records were used to estimate the rate of late adverse effects due to radiation therapy for rectal cancer. LÄS MER
9. Treatment of Experimental Neuroblastoma with Angiogenic Inhibitors
Sammanfattning : Neuroblastoma is a childhood cancer that originates from neuroblasts in the peripheral nervous system. Neuroblastoma show considerable heterogeneity with respect to location, responsiveness to treatment and prognosis. LÄS MER
10. Rectal Cancer : Can the Results be Further Improved?
Sammanfattning : The treatment of rectal cancer is complex and comprises: diagnostic measures; different preoperative treatments; a multitude of surgical and technical choices; possibilities of postoperative treatments and postoperative care and follow up. In this thesis, some aspects of this complex paradigm have been further investigated. LÄS MER
