11. Vitamin D metabolism in osteoblast-like cells : effects of drugs on inactivation by CYP24A1
Sammanfattning : Vitamin D is essential for bone function, and deficiency in active vitamin D hormone can lead to bone disorders. Long-term treatment with glucocorticoids and antiretroviral drugs used to treat HIV infection, results in osteoporosis and increased risk of fractures. Much remains unclear regarding the effects of these compounds in bone cells. LÄS MER
12. Aspects on long-term treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors in Chronic myeloid leukemia
Sammanfattning : Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is caused by the tyrosine kinase activity of the oncoprotein BCR-ABL. The introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) targeting BCR-ABL has profoundly changed the prognosis of CML. Currently, there are three TKIs approved for treatment of CML, imatinib, nilotinib and dasatinib. LÄS MER
13. Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), calcium and human osteoblast-like cells
Sammanfattning : Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) may cause humoral hypercalcernia of malignancy (HHM) when overproduced by malignant tumors, but is also produced in lower amounts under normophysiological conditions in practically all cell types, including osteoblasts. One of the aims of the present study was to investigate interactions between PTHrP and osteoblasts, to elucidate bone-regulating functions of PTHrP. LÄS MER
14. Effects of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and growth hormone on osteoblast-like cells
Sammanfattning : Bone remodeling, which occurs throughout life in both cancellous and cortical bone, involves mainly the osteoblasts and osteoclasts. The osteoblast is responsible for the production of matrix, which later becomes mineralized. The osteoclast is a large, multinuclear cell, which is responsible for bone resorption. LÄS MER
15. The effects of some peptide hormones on osteoblast-like cells : with specific focus on oxytocin and vasopressin
Sammanfattning : The nonapeptides oxytocin (OXT) and vasopressin (AVP) are mainly produced in the hypothalamus and released into the circulation through the neurohypophysis. Recently, an OXT-receptor was demonstrated in human osteoblast-like (hOB) cells, and it has been suggested that patients with central diabetes insipidus (deficiency of AVP) have decreased bone mass.
