  1. 1. The effects of some peptide hormones on osteoblast-like cells : with specific focus on oxytocin and vasopressin

    Författare :Alena Lagumdzija; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :h0B; SaOS-2; OXT; AVP; IGF-I; PTH; PTHrP; eNOSKO;

    Sammanfattning : The nonapeptides oxytocin (OXT) and vasopressin (AVP) are mainly produced in the hypothalamus and released into the circulation through the neurohypophysis. Recently, an OXT-receptor was demonstrated in human osteoblast-like (hOB) cells, and it has been suggested that patients with central diabetes insipidus (deficiency of AVP) have decreased bone mass. 2. 2. Vitamin D metabolism in osteoblast-like cells : effects of drugs on inactivation by CYP24A1

    Författare :Ahmad Zayny; Maria Norlin; Kjell Wikvall; Håkan Melhus; Inger Johansson; Fredrik Jerneren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin D is essential for bone function, and deficiency in active vitamin D hormone can lead to bone disorders. Long-term treatment with glucocorticoids and antiretroviral drugs used to treat HIV infection, results in osteoporosis and increased risk of fractures. Much remains unclear regarding the effects of these compounds in bone cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Expression and regulation of steroid metabolizing enzymes in cells of the nervous and skeletal systems : Special focus on vitamin D metabolism

    Författare :Mokhtar Almokhtar; Maria Norlin; Kjell Wikvall; Gösta Eggertsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Little is known about the mechanisms of vitamin D actions in the brain and bone. In this study, the metabolism of vitamin D and its regulation in various cell cultures of the nervous and skeletal systems were examined. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Identification, cloning and characterization of the p53 induced gene human Wig-1

    Författare :Fredrik Hellborg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The tumor suppressor p53 is a transcription factor that responds to various kinds of cellular stress. In respons to the sensed stress it is able to induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. In order to achieve these effects it transactivates target genes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The p53-induced Wig-1 protein : studies of interaction partners and expression in tumor cells

    Författare :Magdalena Prahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The tumor suppressor p53 is a critical regulator of life and death in cells. The p53 protein is present at very low levels in cells under normal conditions but accumulates in response to different stress stimuli, such as DNA damage, hypoxia, and oncogene activation. LÄS MER
