1. Bio-optics, satellite remote sensing and Baltic Sea ecosystems : Applications for monitoring and management
Sammanfattning : Earth observation satellites cover large areas with frequent temporal repetition and provide us with new insight into ocean and coastal processes. Ocean colour measurements from satellite remote sensing are linked to the bio-optics, which refers to the light interactions with living organisms and dissolved and suspended constituents in the aquatic environment. 2. Biomedical and atmospheric applications of optical spectroscopy in scattering media
Sammanfattning : Spectroscopic analysis of scattering media is difficult because the effective path length of the light is non-trivial to predict when photons are scattered many times. The main area of research for such conditions is biological tissues, which scatter light because of variations of the refractive index on the cellular level. LÄS MER
3. Remote sensing in optically complex waters : water quality assessment using MERIS data
Sammanfattning : This PhD study focusses on the use of MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) data for reliable and quantitative water-quality assessment of optically-complex waters (lake, brackish and coastal waters). The thesis is divided into two parts: A. LÄS MER
4. Airborne laser depth sounding : model development concerning the detection of small objects on the sea bottom
Sammanfattning : Airborne laser depth sounding is a promising technique for rapid and high -density sounding of shallow waters. Depth accuracy analysis for laser depth sounding has almost exclusively dealt with horizontal flat bottoms. The objective of this work is to simulate and compare the influence of different shapes of small objects placed on the sea bottom. LÄS MER
5. Environmental Monitoring by Multi-Spectral Lidar Techniques
Sammanfattning : Multi-spectral lidar (light detection and ranging) techniques have been developed and employed in various environmental studies, ranging from concentration mapping of volcanic emissions to fluorescence imaging of historical monuments. In both absorption measurements of gaseous species and fluorescence imaging of stones, multiple wavelength excitation and multiple wavelength detection have been applied. LÄS MER
