  1. 1. Assessment of experimental neurotrauma

    Författare :Ying-Lai Huang; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Impulse noise; diffuse brain injury; focal brain injury; closed head injury; NSE; S-100; GFAP; apoptosis; astrocytosis; glutamate; c-JUN; rotational acceleration; CSF;

    Sammanfattning : Model systems of closed head injury are designed to replicate aspects of traumatic brain injury, ischemia and epilepsy in man. The aim of this thesis was to (1) develop sensitive systems enabling analyses of the biochemical reactions, as reflected by leakage of marker compounds to the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF); and (2) develop and assess a new model for closed head injury and associated dynamic changes in the brain cell. 2. 2. Synaptic uncoupling in the mouse cochlea induced by noise or cisplatin and its clinical relevance

    Författare :Evangelia Tserga; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The cochlea has an autonomous circadian clock that controls auditory function and increases vulnerability to noise trauma during the active phase. The mechanisms regulating the circadian control of the auditory system are poorly understood. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Calcium binding protein immunoreactivity in the central auditory system and correlations with the auditory periphery : the effects of noise and aging in mice

    Författare :Esma Idrizbegovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Auditory; hearing loss; central auditory system; stereology; plasticity;

    Sammanfattning : This study has examined how calcium binding protein immunoreactivity is modulated in the cochlear nucleus and the inferior colliculus after noise exposure and during aging in mice. The effect of noise exposure on calbindin-D28k (calbindin) and parvalbumin immunoreactivity in the dorsal and posteroventral cochlear nucleus (DCN and PVCN) and inferior colliculus (IC) was studied in CBA/CBA mice by using two-dimensional quantification. 4. 4. Hereditary susceptibility to inner ear stress agents studied in heterozygotes of the German waltzing guinea pig

    Författare :Åsa Skjönsberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :age-dependent hearing loss; cisplatin; DPOAE; efferent system; gender; gentamicin; noise trauma; ototoxic drugs; protection;

    Sammanfattning : The German waltzing guinea pig is a strain of animals expressing deafness and severe balance disorders already at birth. The mutation arose spontaneously in a breeding facility in Germany and as the affected animals show a characteristic waltzing behavior, the strain is named the German waltzing guinea pig. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The diagnosis and protection of the auditory peripheral system

    Författare :Mao Li Duan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cochlea; inner hair cell; outer hair cell; glutamate; post-synaptic receptor; auditory brainstem response; forward masking; noise trauma; hearing loss;

    Sammanfattning : The main focus of this thesis is on the diagnosis and prevention of peripheral hearing loss. An auditory evoked response measure (forward masking) was developed that specifically tests the function of the inner hair cells, independently of the outer hair cells. LÄS MER
