  1. 1. Hereditary susceptibility to inner ear stress agents studied in heterozygotes of the German waltzing guinea pig

    Författare :Åsa Skjönsberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :age-dependent hearing loss; cisplatin; DPOAE; efferent system; gender; gentamicin; noise trauma; ototoxic drugs; protection;

    Sammanfattning : The German waltzing guinea pig is a strain of animals expressing deafness and severe balance disorders already at birth. The mutation arose spontaneously in a breeding facility in Germany and as the affected animals show a characteristic waltzing behavior, the strain is named the German waltzing guinea pig. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pharmacokinetics and inner ear transport of cisplatin

    Författare :Victoria Hellberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cisplatin is a commonly used platinum anti-cancer drug. Regrettably cisplatin has dose-limiting ototoxic side effects, e.g. the drug can induce an irreversible hearing loss. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Round Window Membrane - Gateway to the Cochlea : A Morphological and Electrophysiological study

    Författare :Leif Nordang; Sten Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; round window membrane; pseudomonas exotoxin; auditory brainstem response; hearing loss; endolymphatic sac; inner ear immunology; glutamate; nitric oxide inhibitor; glucocorticoid.; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Topical treatment of several inner ear diseases through the round window membrane (RWM) might be feasible in the near future. Bacteria toxins, ototoxic drugs and noise trauma seem to harm the inner ear by a common pathway which involves, excessive outflow of the afferent neurotransmitter glutamate and formation of nitric oxide (NO), which can severely damage cells/nerve endings and lead to cell death. 4. 4. Cancer vaccine strategies and studies of human thioredoxin reductase splice variants

    Författare :Pascal Dammeyer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer involves abnormal, uncontrolled proliferation of cells, and evasion from the immune system. Immune evasion can be caused by defects in one or more of the components of the major histocompatibility complex class I antigen machinery, e.g. the beta2-microglobulin (beta2m) molecule. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The effect of caloric restriction on age-related hearing loss and the impact of repeated sound exposures

    Författare :Paula Mannström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The auditory system is the sensory system responsible for hearing and crucial for communication between individuals. While aging, many organs of the body start losing their function, including the hearing organ. The severity of age-related hearing loss depends on numerous factors. LÄS MER
