  1. 1. Pulmonary Drug Absorption : In vitro and in vivo investigations of drug absorption across the lung barrier and its relation to drug physicochemical properties

    Författare :Ann Tronde; Gerrit Borchard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; lung; pulmonary; drug delivery; inhalation; drug transport; pharmacokinetics; absorption; bioavailability; drug metabolism; preclinical; rat; in vivo; isolated and perfused lung; Caco-2; nebulization catheter; aerosol; physicochemical; peptide; efflux; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Biopharmaceutics; biofarmaci;

    Sammanfattning : Although, pulmonary drug delivery is a well established means for targeting of drugs to the lungs for the treatment of respiratory diseases as well as for the systemic delivery of volatile anesthetic agents, drug absorption kinetics in the lung have not been subjected to extensive research. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate drug absorption characteristics of the lung barrier, using the isolated and perfused rat lung model and in vivo pharmacokinetic studies in rats. 2. 2. Acute Pulmonary Embolism : not just an acute condition after all

    Författare :Therese Andersson; Stefan Söderberg; Bo Carlberg; Bengt Zöller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute Pulmonary Embolism; Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension CTEPH ; Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Disease CTEPD ; invärtesmedicin; Internal Medicine; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease following myocardial infarction and stroke. Despite diagnostic improvements, the diagnosis of PE is still associated with many difficulties, as the symptoms of an acute PE are nonspecific. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pulmonary hypertension. Clinical and pathophysiological studies

    Författare :Nedim Selimovic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pulmonary hypertension; Echocardiography; Right heart catheterisation; Pulmonary vascular resistance; Pulmonary function tests; Lung transplantation; Mortality on the waiting list; Vascular remodelling; Growth substances; Inflammation; Endothelin;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a common abnormality, most often associated with various cardiopulmonary diseases. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a devastating pulmonary vascular disease characterised by the proliferation of endothelial, smooth-muscle cells and fibroblasts. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Obstructive pulmonary disease : Studies of acute exacerbations and immunologic status

    Författare :Inger Dahlén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; asthma; COPD; acute exacerbations; inflammatory markers; psychologicalfactors; bone markers; immunological skin tests; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, different aspects of the treatment and care of patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have been studied.In a study of 50 patients seeking medical care for an acute exacerbation of asthma or COPD, we studied inflammatory markers in blood, sputum and urine. 5. 5. Pulmonary Atelectasis in General Anaesthesia : Clinical Studies on the Counteracting Effects of Positive End-Expiratory Pressure

    Författare :Erland Östberg; Mats Enlund; Lennart Edmark; Sophie Lindgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; General anaesthesia; pulmonary atelectasis; positive end-expiratory pressure; oxygen; computed tomography; continuous positive airway pressure; mechanical ventilation; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : Partial lung collapse, i.e., pulmonary atelectasis, is common during general anaesthesia. The main causal mechanism is reduced lung volume with airway closure and subsequent gas absorption from preoxygenated alveoli. LÄS MER
