  1. 21. ENDOTHELIAL- EPITHELIAL INTERACTIONS Blood vessels friends or foes?

    Författare :Fredrik Wolfhagen Sand; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; blood vessels; pancreas; endoderm development; S1P1; N-CAM; diabetic retinopathy; diabetes; tubulogenesis; Cdc42;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes affects enormous amounts of patients. In type 1 diabetes the insulin producing β cells in the islet of Langerhans are destroyed by the immune system. The β cells, which are located in the pancreas, regulate blood glucose levels. The lack of insulin production requires administration of insulin. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Investigating mechanisms of angiogenesis in health and disease using zebrafish models

    Författare :Zaheer Ali; Lasse D. Jensen; Neil Lagali; Massimo Santoro; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the growth of blood vessels from an existing vasculature, can occur by sprouting from preexisting vessels or by vessel splitting (intussusception). Pathological angiogenesis drives choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in age related macular degeneration (AMD) which is commonly restricted under the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), called occult CNV, but may also involve vessels penetrating through the RPE into the sub-retinal space. 3. 23. Biological consequences of endothelial cell signaling

    Författare :Ross Smith; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Przemyslaw Sapieha; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VEGFR2; Mechanosensing; Retinopathy; Biologi; Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelial cells make up the inner lining of blood and lymphatic vessels, where they participate in functions vital to survival of the tissue; endothelial cells maintain vessel integrity, dynamically respond to the changing metabolic needs of tissues, and participate in many tissue-specific functions. Endothelial cells sense environmental cues which initiate signal transduction pathways that regulate behavior. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Experimental therapeutic angiogenesis after myocardial infarction : efficacy of different angiogenic factors and delivery methods

    Författare :Xiaojin Hao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Angiogenesis; arteriogenesis; apoptosis; myocardial infarction; VEGF-A165; bFGF; PDGF-BB; adenovirus; plasmid; alginate;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the stimulation of vessel growth, is a promising therapy in ischemic heart disease. A wealth of evidence has shown that several growth factors can induce neovascularization in ischemic models. However, the optimal application of growth factors and delivery method requires further exploration. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Molecular Mechanisms of Action of Histidine-rich Glycoprotein in Angiogenesis Inhibition

    Författare :Chunsik Lee; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Jan Palmblad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell and molecular biology; anti-angiogenesis; angiogenesis inhibitor; endothelial cell; histidine-rich glycoprotein; focal adhesion; tumor-associated macrophages; VEGF; MMP; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, de novo synthesis of blood vessels from the pre-existing vasculature, is required both during embryonic development and in pathophysiological conditions. In particular, tumor growth needs new capillary vessels in order to both deliver oxygen and nutrients and to remove toxin and metabolites. LÄS MER
