  1. 11. The Cambrian lophotrochozoans of the Transantarctic Mountains, Antarctica

    Författare :Lewis Bassett-Butt; Lars Holmer; Glenn Brock; Christian Skovsted; Jan Ove Ebbestad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brachiopoda; Dailyatia; Cambrian; Drumian; Middle Cambrian; Early Cambrian; Antarctica; tommotiid; camenellan; palaeobiology; small shelly fossils; Earth Science with specialization in Historical Geology and Palaeontology; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Sammanfattning : The origin of many lophotrochozoan groups can be traced to “small shelly fossil” (SSF) faunas of the Early Cambrian. Antarctica is a key region of study, due to the continent’s known close geographical proximity to well-studied Australian and Indian basins in in the Cambrian. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Constraining the Uplift History of the Al Hajar Mountains, Oman

    Författare :Reuben Hansman; Uwe Ring; Victoria Pease; Hemin Koyi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oman; Al Hajar; mountain; uplift; orogeny; tectonics; structural; geology; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Mountain building is the result of large compressional forces in the Earth’s crust where two tectonic plates collide. This is why mountains only form at plate boundaries, of which the Al Hajar Mountains in Oman and the United Arab Emirates is thought to be an example of. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Long-term changes of mercury, lead and persistent organic pollutants in arctic environments

    Författare :Carola Lindeberg; Ingemar Renberg; Mats Tysklind; Ove Emteryd; Edvard Karlsson; Per Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lake sediment; time trends; chlordane; hexachlorobenzene; mercury; lead; soil; climate changes; Arctic; Greenland; Sweden; Swedish mountains; PCB; PBDE; pesticides; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic represents a huge area with poor infrastructure contributing to limited possibilities to establish monitoring and research programs. From the investigations that have been performed we know that the arctic environment is affected by anthropogenic emissions from lower latitudes, but knowledge about underlying transport processes, the arctic pollution extent and the rates of changes are limited. 4. 14. Palaeoenvironment in North-Western Romania during the last 15 000 years

    Författare :Angelica Feurdean; Barbara Wohlfarth; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Leif Björkman; Iustinian Petrescu; Katherine J Willis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Northwest Romania; Gutaiului Mountains; pollenstratigraphy; macrofossil remains; Lateglacial; Holocene; tree refugia; tree dynamics; past climate; human influence;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis are to establish a chronological framework for environmental changes during the last 15,000 years in northwest Romania, to reconstruct the vegetation development, and to evaluate the underlying processes for forest dynamics. Furthermore, an overview of earlier and ongoing pollenstratigraphic work in Romania is provided. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The Burden of Responsibility : Predicaments of Environmental Life in the Caraballo Mountains, Northern Philippines

    Författare :Macario Lacbawan; Don Kulick; Claudia Merli; Deborah Gewertz; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Indigenous people are not obviously, or naturally, stewards of the environment. But when the idea that they are such custodians gains legal traction, and when indigenous land-use practices are codified to reflect environmental principles, they become a burden of responsibility that has significant consequences for the lives and the livelihoods of indigenous communities.
