  1. 1. The Cambrian lophotrochozoans of the Transantarctic Mountains, Antarctica

    Författare :Lewis Bassett-Butt; Lars Holmer; Glenn Brock; Christian Skovsted; Jan Ove Ebbestad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brachiopoda; Dailyatia; Cambrian; Drumian; Middle Cambrian; Early Cambrian; Antarctica; tommotiid; camenellan; palaeobiology; small shelly fossils; Earth Science with specialization in Historical Geology and Palaeontology; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Sammanfattning : The origin of many lophotrochozoan groups can be traced to “small shelly fossil” (SSF) faunas of the Early Cambrian. Antarctica is a key region of study, due to the continent’s known close geographical proximity to well-studied Australian and Indian basins in in the Cambrian. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ice Sheet, Climate, and Landscape Interactions in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica

    Författare :Jens-Ove Näslund; Sugden David; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antarctica; Basal temperature; Dronning Maud Land; Erosion; Escarpments; Glacial landforms; Ice Sheets; Ice sheet modelling; Landscape development; Palaeosurfaces; Radar; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The impact of glaciers and ice sheets on the subglacial landscape are of fundamental importance for studies of glacial history and landscape development, both in previously glaciated areas and in areas that are glaciated today. The thesis concerns the present and past erosive capacity of the ice sheet in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Spatial distribution of snow in Antarctica and other glacier studies using ground-penetrating radar

    Författare :Cecilia Richardson-Näslund; Robert W. Jacobel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; GPR; ground-penetrating radar; radar soundings; snow accumulation; accumulation rate; spatial variability; Antarctica; Dronning Maud Land; cold surface layer; thermal regime; glacial cirques; Sweden; Antarktis; Glaciärer; Ackumulering av snö; Geography; Physical Geography; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to develop and exemplify the use of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) within the field of glaciology. The main focus is on the spatial distribution of snow in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Force Budget Analysis of Glacier Flow : Ice Dynamical Studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Ice Flow Investigations of Outlet Glaciers in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica

    Författare :Jim Hedfors; Veijo Pohjola; Else Kolstrup; Niels Reeh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; force budget; ice flux; ice dynamics; mass balance; strain heating; climate change; Storglaciären; Dronning Maud Land; Antarctica; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to the understanding of glacier response to climate change by ice dynamical studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Bonnevie-Svendsenbreen, Kibergbreen and Plogbreen in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Ice surface velocities, ice geometry and temperature information is fed through a force budget model to calculate ice mass outflux of these glacial systems via three-dimensional stress distributions for a flux-gate. 5. 5. U-Pb geochronology of tectonothermal events related to the Rodinia and Gondwana supercontinents -observations from Antarctica and Baltica

    Författare :Oskar Paulsson; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; pedology; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; geomorphology; Physical geography; Gondwana; Rodinia; Antarctica; Baltica; Dronning Maud Land; cartography;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents data from two areas, Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica, and the Scandinavian Caledonides, Baltica. In addition, a comparative geochronological study is presented. The bedrock of Dronning Maud Land (DML) is dominated by migmatitic gneisses and post-tectonic intrusions. LÄS MER
