  1. 11. Muscle strength and motor function in neuromuscular disorders. A clinical study of children and adolescents with spinal muscular atrophy, myotonic dystrophy, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and amyoplasia

    Författare :Anna-Karin Kroksmark; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :muscle involvement; muscle function; motor performance; contractures; spinal muscular atrophy; myotonic dystrophy; Duchenne muscular dystrophy; amyoplasia; arthrogryposis multiplex congenita;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The aims of this study were to investigate muscle strength and motor function in children and adolescents with four neuromuscular disorders; 1) spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), 2) myotonic dystrophy (DM), 3) Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD and 4) the amyoplasia form of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. Further: 1) to analyze compensatory maneuvers due to muscle weakness in individuals with SMA, 2) to correlate motor function in individuals with DM with the size of the mutation, 3) to evaluate the long-term side effects and effects on muscle strength, motor function, vital capacity and development of scoliosis in boys with DMD treated with low-dose prednisone, and 4) to investigate how muscle strength and joint contractures affect motor function in individuals with amyoplasia and to relate current status to joint position at birth. 2. 12. Neck function in rhythmic jaw activities

    Författare :Birgitta Häggman-Henrikson; Antoon DeLaat; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :chewing; head; human; jaw; mandible; motor control; movement; neck; temporomandibular disorders; whiplash injury; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Previous studies in animals and humans show anatomic and physiological connections between the trigeminal and cervical regions. This investigation tested the hypothesis of a functional integration between the human jaw and neck motor systems in rhythmic jaw activities. LÄS MER

  3. 13. MUSCLE STRENGTH, GROSS MOTOR FUNCTION AND GAIT PATTERN IN CHILDREN WITH CEREBRAL PALSY

    Författare :Meta Nyström Eek; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; child; muscle strength; reference values; cerebral palsy; motor skills; gait; resistance training;

    Sammanfattning : Aim The main purpose was to explore the relationship between muscle strength and walking ability in children with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy (CP), and to analyse whether muscle strength training can improve walking ability. Another aim was to establish normative values for muscle strength in terms of torque in typically developing children and adolescents, and in relation to sex, age and body weight. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Neural Control of Movement : Motor Neuron Subtypes, Proprioception and Recurrent Inhibition

    Författare :Anders Enjin; Klas Kullander; Samuel L. Pfaff; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; motor neuron; proprioception; recurrent inhibition; molecular marker; Ia afferent; development; transgenic mice; Renshaw cell; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Movement is central for life, and all animals depend on accurate regulation of movement for purposeful behavior. There is great diversity of movements, ranging between simple and vital breathing movements to minute and subtle movements of the face used to communicate emotions. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Cognitive function, quality of life and functional brain networks : before and after glioma surgery

    Författare :Mattias Stålnacke; Rickard L. Sjöberg; Tommy Bergenheim; Johan Eriksson; Kenneth Hugdahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioma; Neuropsychology; Neurosurgery; Quality of life; Supplementary Motor Area; Primary motor area. rsfMRI; fMRI; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate how cognitive function and quality of life are affected by glioma surgery in the supplementary motor area (SMA) and the lower primary motor cortex (M1), as well as to explore possible changes in functional network connectivity after surgery in the SMA.Sixteen patients subject to resective neurosurgical procedures due to gliomas in either the SMA or the M1 were studied.
