  1. 16. Brown is the new white: consequences of white adipose tissue alterations in Huntington's disease

    Författare :Andy Mccourt; Biomarkörer vid hjärnsjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Huntington’s disease; weight loss; white adipose tissue; brown adipose tissue; peripheral symptoms; R6 2 mice; UCP1; CREB1; gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : Huntington's disease (HD) is a devastating, inherited neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expanded CAG repeat in the huntingtin gene. Peripheral symptoms, such as skeletal muscle wasting, progressive weight loss, altered body composition and endocrine disturbances exist alongside neurodegeneration. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Arsenic exposure and early biomarkers of cardiovascular disease and cancer

    Författare :Syeda Shegufta Ameer; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :Cardiovascular disease; DNA methylation; Telomere length; MtDNAcn; Gene expression; Cancer;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractInorganic arsenic exposure through drinking water is a serious public health concern because of its association to cancer and non-cancer diseases. More than one hundred million people world-wide are exposed to elevated levels of arsenic on a regular basis. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Early steps in the biogenesis of the bc1 complex in yeast mitochondria : The role of the Cbp3-Cbp6 complex in cytochrome b synthesis and assembly

    Författare :Steffi Gruschke; Martin Ott; Dennis Winge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondria; respiratory chain assembly; bc1 complex; mitochondrial gene expression; translational regulation; hemylation; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The inner membrane of mitochondria harbors the complexes of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase, which perform the key metabolic process oxidative phosphorylation. These complexes are composed of subunits from two different genetic origins: the majority of constituents is synthesized on cytosolic ribosomes and imported into mitochondria, but a handful of proteins, which represent core catalytic subunits, are encoded in the organellar DNA and translated on mitochondrial ribosomes. 4. 19. Characterization of mitochondrial membrane proteins as novel components in mitochondrial dynamics

    Författare :Tong Liu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are dynamic organelles that frequently change their shape by shifting the balance of fusion and fission in response to cellular metabolic needs. This process is termed mitochondrial dynamics. Dysregulation of mitochondrial dynamics has been described in many human diseases. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Training-induced increase in mitochondrial biogenesis

    Författare :Emma Hawke; Department of Neurological and Movement Sciences University of Verona; []
    Nyckelord :alkalosis; acidosis; muscle adaptation; PGC1alpha; cell signalling;

    Sammanfattning : Endurance training leads to an improved ability of muscle to utilize oxygen. This is related to an increased density and function of mitochondria. LÄS MER
