  1. 1. Training-induced increase in mitochondrial biogenesis

    Författare :Emma Hawke; Department of Neurological and Movement Sciences University of Verona; []
    Nyckelord :alkalosis; acidosis; muscle adaptation; PGC1alpha; cell signalling;

    Sammanfattning : Endurance training leads to an improved ability of muscle to utilize oxygen. This is related to an increased density and function of mitochondria. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Tissue Perfusion and Oxygenation Evaluated by Measurements of Tissue Gases and pH. An Experiemental Study

    Författare :Åke Mellström; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; Anaesthesiology; Tissue pH; Tissue PCO2; Oxygen utilization; Tissue PO2;

    Sammanfattning : Optimum peripheral perfusion, oxygenation and oxygen utilization is a prerequisite for normal wound healing, resistance to infection and cardiac function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peripheral oxygen utilization by measurements of subcutaneous tissue gases and pH (PscO2, PscCO2 and pHsc) in comparison to established techniques for measurements of periph-eral tissue oxygenation and oxygen utilization in experimental animal models with hyperoxia-hypoxia, acidosis-alkalosis and haemorrhage-resuscitation. 4. 4. Novel aspects on osmolality and plasma sodium during pregnancy and labour

    Författare :Vibeke Moen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis was designed to study causes and effects of changes in plasma sodium and osmolality during pregnancy and labour. The physiological changes of early pregnancy include reduction in plasma sodium and osmolality, as well as increased ventilation with reduced arterial pCO2. These changes are usually considered due to progesterone. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Fungal and mussel protein sources in fish feed : nutritional and physiological aspects

    Författare :Aleksandar Vidakovic; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Fungal and mussel protein sources in the diet of Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis), Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and their effect on growth performance, nutrient utilisation, intestinal barrier function and post-prandial profiles of plasma amino acids and whole blood parameters were evaluated in this thesis. Apparent digestibility of dry matter, sum of amino acids and gross energy in experiment with Arctic charr decreased with dietary inclusion of intact Saccharomyces cerevisiae. LÄS MER
