  1. 1. Impact of litter size on sow health and welfare

    Författare :Emma Andersson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic improvement of litter size has been the main breeding goal in piglet production during the last decades, resulting in a steady increase in total number of born piglets in each litter both in Sweden and in other European countries. It has been suggested that large litters pose a major welfare problem for sows and piglets. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Complex Genetics of Mouse Reproduction and Arhritis

    Författare :Maria Liljander; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; morula; B10.Q mice; genetics.; Pregnancy; CIA; reproduction; QTL; superovulation; blastocysts; oocytes; litter size; RA; NFR N mice; MHC;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Optimal breeding of mice is very important in biomedical science today. The understanding why some strains breed better and some worse enable scientists to create better in vivo models for human diseases. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of seed size and habitat on recruitment patterns in grassland and forest plants

    Författare :Karin Lönnberg; Ove Eriksson; Per Milberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seed size; seedling establishment; seedling survival; recruitment; seed removal; co-existence; game-theory; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : A trade-off between seed size and seed number is central in seed ecology, and has been suggested to be related to a trade-off between competition and colonization, as well as to a trade-off between stress tolerance and fecundity. Large seeds endure hazards during establishment, such as shading, drought, litter coverage and competition from other plants, better than do small seeds, due to a larger amount of stored resources in the seed. 4. 4. Genetic Heteroscedasticity for Domestic Animal Traits

    Författare :Majbritt Felleki; Erling Strandberg; Lars Rönnegård; Ole Fredslund Christensen; Högskolan Dalarna; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Quantitative genetics; genetic heteroscedasticity of residuals; genetic heterogeneity of environmental variation; genetic heterogeneity of residual variance; double hierarchical generalized linear models; teat count in pigs; litter size in pigs; milk yield in cows; somatic cell count in cows; Complex Systems – Microdata Analysis; Komplexa system - mikrodataanalys;

    Sammanfattning : Animal traits differ not only in mean, but also in variation around the mean. For instance, one sire’s daughter group may be very homogeneous, while another sire’s daughters are much more heterogeneous in performance. The difference in residual variance can partially be explained by genetic differences. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Microplastics in the urban environment : Concentrations and composition in stormwater sediments and UV-degradation of common litter

    Författare :Lisa Öborn; Helene Österlund; Maria Viklander; Mats Gustafsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microplastic; stormwater; sediment; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Microplastics (MPs) are small pieces of plastic material including tyre wear particles (TWPs) smaller than 5000 µm. One of the primary pathways through which MPs including TWPs enter aquatic and marine environments is stormwater runoff from urban areas. LÄS MER
