1. Students working with a large software system : experiences and understandings
Sammanfattning : This monograph describes an empirical study with the overall aim of producing insights about how students experience the subject Computer Science and its learning environments, particularly programming and software engineering. The research takes a start in the students' world, from their perspective, using their stories, and hence, we have chosen a phenomenographic approach for our research. 2. Food Quality Effects on Zooplankton Growth and Energy Transfer in Pelagic Freshwater Food Webs
Sammanfattning : Poor food quality can have large negative effects on zooplankton growth and this can also affect food web interactions. The main aims of this thesis were to study the importance of different food quality aspects in Daphnia, to identify potentially important differences among zooplankton taxa, and to put food quality research into a natural context by identifying the importance of food quality and quantity in lakes of different nutrient content. 3. Electrochemical Deposition of Nanostructured Metal/Metal-Oxide Coatings
Sammanfattning : Electrochemical deposition finds applications in the electronics- and protective coating industries. The technique is a versatile tool for the synthesis of alloys and thin films. Knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the electrode processes enables the design of nanostructured materials. LÄS MER
4. Strings as Sigma Models and in the Tensionless Limit
Sammanfattning : This thesis considers two different aspects of string theory, the tensionless limit of the string and supersymmetric sigma models with extended supersymmetry. First, the tensionless limit is used to find a IIB supergravity background generated by a tensionless string. The background has the characteristics of a gravitational shock-wave. LÄS MER
5. Impact of Geographical and Environmental Structures on Habitat Choice, Metapopulation Dynamics and Genetic Structure for Hazel Grouse (Bonasa bonasia)
Sammanfattning : In this work suitable habitats for hazel grouse (Bonasa bonasia) were identified using ecological niche factor analysis (ENFA). The results from ENFA reveal that hazel grouse utilize a different and more restricted niche than what is generally available in the study area. LÄS MER
