6. The involvement of calcium and membrane fusion events in neutrophil secretion and respiratory burst
Sammanfattning : Neutrophil granulocytes play an important role in host defence during the early stages of microbial infection. The neutrophils have to leave the blood stream and migrate out into the tissue where they are able to phagocytose and kill microbes as well as dispose of cell debris from damaged tissues. LÄS MER
7. Regulation of Intracellular Calcium in Brown Adipocytes
Sammanfattning : Intracellular Ca2+ is considered a primary regulator of cell function. In the present study, the control and the effects of intracellular Ca2+ in brown adipocytes have been investigated. Cytosolic Ca2+ levels ([Ca2+]i) are the resultant of the activity of Ca2+ transport systems. LÄS MER
8. Zinc Oxide Nanostructure Based Electrochemical Sensors and Drug Delivery to Intracellular Environments
Sammanfattning : The nanoscale science and nanostructure engineering have well established in the fabrication of novel electrochemical biosensors with faster response and higher sensitivity than of planar sensor configurations. Moreover nanostructures are suggested and used as efficient carrier of photosensitizers for cancerous cell treatment. LÄS MER
9. Motility of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes : An image processing approach
Sammanfattning : Cell motility is essential for polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) function in the defense against invading microorganisms and in inflammatory processes. Using digital video microscopy and image processing, individual cells were studied during random locomotion, chemotactic locomotion and phagocytosis. LÄS MER
10. Modulation of the calcium-force relationship in smooth muscle by polyamines and metabolic inhibition
Sammanfattning : The relationship between intracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]i) and force in smooth muscle was investigated in receptor-coupled permeabilized preparations and by fluorimetry of the calcium indicator Fura 2 in intact smooth muscle. The time integral of spontaneous [Ca2+]i transients in the intact rat portal vein was decreased by cyanide and, during tonic contraction, cyanide reduced force without changing [Ca2+]i implying metabolic sensitivity of both membrane excitation and [Ca2+]i - activation of the contractile proteins.
