  1. 1. Understanding corrosion protection mechanisms of nanocomposite polymer coatings on carbon steel : A combination of in-situ AFM and electrochemical studies

    Författare :Jing Li; Jinshan Pan; Per Claesson; Herman Terryn; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymer coatings; electrochemistry; nano; in-situ AFM; mechanism; corrosion protection; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Corrosion protection of carbon steel is crucial in today’s world and there is an urgent need to replace the hazardous compounds used with environmentally friendly anticorrosion coatings. In this European collaborative research project, new types of functional composite anticorrosion coatings for steel were developed with properties beyond the state-of-the-art using nanotechnology. 2. 2. Quantitative in situ analysis of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper induced by carboxylic acids

    Författare :Harveth Gil; Christofer Leygraf; Mark Rutland; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atmospheric corrosion; carboxylic acids; copper; in situ; IRAS; QCM; coulometric reduction.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The interaction of carboxylic acids with copper is a phenomenon found both outdoors and, more commonly, indoors. The influence on copper of some carboxylic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, and butyric) have so far been studied at concentrations levels at least three or four orders of magnitude higher than actual indoor conditions (< 20 ppb, volume parts per billion), and with only limited emphasis on any mechanistic approach. Författare :Jonas Evertsson; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; XRR; XPS; XRF; GTSAXS; EIS; Synchrotron Radiation; Native oxide; Anodization; Anodic aluminum oxide; Nanoporous aluminum oxide; Single crystal; Aluminum alloys; in situ; Fysicumarkivet A:2018:Evertsson;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the studies of native and anodic oxides on both aluminum model single crystal surfaces as well as on aluminum alloys found in applications are presented. The focus has been on the characterization in situ as the oxide is growing by an electrochemical process called anodization. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Synthesis and In Situ ToF-LEIS Analysis of Ultrathin Silicides and Ti-based Films

    Författare :Philipp Mika Wolf; Daniel Primetzhofer; Zhen Zhang; Eduardo Pitthan; Tuan Thien Tran; Anders Hallén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ion scattering; in situ characterization; nickel silicide; ultrathin metal silicide; epitaxial silicide; surface analysis; titanium based films; high-resolution depth profiling;

    Sammanfattning : Thin films and coatings play a significant role in today’s society, with applications in electronics, optics, mechanics, and biomedicine. Further advancement in the field of surface coatings requires a good understanding of the unique features of ultrathin films and surfaces, which can only be reached with analysis techniques capable of resolving composition and morphology on a sub-nm scale. Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the effect of microstructural variation on the mechanical properties and deformation behavior of ductile iron. To research and determine these effects, two grades of ductile iron, (i) GJS-500-7 and (ii) high silicon GJS-500-14, were cast in a geometry containing several plates with different section thicknesses in order to produce microstructural variation.
