  1. 21. Exploring probiotics-host interactions : intestinal immune and defence responses to Lactobacillus reuteri in health and disease

    Författare :Shokoufeh Karimi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Lactobacillus reuteri, a ubiquitous inhabitant of the mammalian gastrointestinal (GI) tract has known health-promoting effects and various strains are commercially available as probiotics. Several probiosis mechanisms have been suggested in L. reuteri’s mode of action, but the mediators and factors involved are not well understood. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Recognition molecules of the complement system: C1q and mannan-binding lectin in autoimmunity and immune defence

    Författare :Ulla Mårtensson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []

    Sammanfattning : The C1 subcomponent C1q and the mannan-binding lectin (MBL) are recognition proteins of the complement system, and have similar structure. C1q binds to IgG and IgM and activates the classical pathway. MBL binds to carbohydrate structures and activates the lectin pathway. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Immune regulation and modulation of allergy and inflammatory diseases

    Författare :Jeanette Grundström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is evoked in defence against invading pathogens entering the body. Sometimes inflammation is started against harmless antigens, which leads to allergic diseases, or against self-antigens or commensal microbiota as in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). LÄS MER

  4. 24. On Mechanisms Impairing Airway Host Defence in Cystic Fibrosis

    Författare :Sandra Jovic; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease, caused by mutations of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator gene. The gene codes for a protein that serve as chloride channel. In cystic fibrosis, this protein is lacking or has a defect function resulting in a thick and sticky mucus of the airways. LÄS MER

  5. 25. C-reactive protein (CRP) and anti-CRP autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus : a study on the occurrence and clinical implications of anti-CRP antibodies and CRP-mediated complement activation

    Författare :Christopher Sjöwall; Thomas Skogh; Johan Frostegård; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autoantibodies; complement activation; C-reactive protein; cytokines; immune complex; immunoregulation; opsonization; systemic lupus erythematosus; Rheumatology; Reumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of a wide range of autoantibodies, multiple organ involvement and by local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes (ICs) in the inflamed organs. In contrast to most systemic inflammatory conditions, and despite raised levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, SLE flares are rarely reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), an important acute-phase reactant in man with homologs in vertebrates and several invertebrates.
