  1. 1. Dual Careers of Swedish University Student-Athletes : A Synthesis of Holistic Developmental and Ecological Approaches

    Författare :Lukas Linnér; Natalia Stambulova; Kristina Ziegert; Judy Van Raalte; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; dual career; student-athlete; university; holistic developmental approach; holistic ecological approach; and dual career assistance; dubbel karriär; elitidrottande student; universitet; holistiskt utvecklingsperspektiv; holistiskt ekologiskt perspektiv; och stödmodell;

    Sammanfattning : The Swedish dual career (DC) system has a history of providing support at the gymnasium/upper secondary level since the early 1970s. Since 2012, there has been a call from the European Union to member states to develop a support provision throughout athletes’ DCs based on national research. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mapping social-ecological systems and human well-being : A spatial exploration of the links between people and the environment in South Africa

    Författare :Maike Hamann; Reinette Biggs; Gretchen Daily; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Social-ecological; systems; ecosystem services; bundles; human well-being; mapping; South Africa; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling; Sustainability Science;

    Sammanfattning : It has become increasingly clear that dealing with present day environmental crises requires a holistic view that takes into account the interactions of social and ecological factors across multiple spatial and temporal scales. An example of where this new paradigm is being operationalized is the study of social-ecological systems. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Meaning and Action in Sustainability Science : Interpretive approaches for social-ecological systems research

    Författare :Simon West; Lisen Schultz; Lorrae van Kerkhoff; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Meaning; interpretive; social-ecological system; complexity; science-policy interface; transformation; sustainability science methodology; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Social-ecological systems research is interventionist by nature. As a subset of sustainability science, social-ecological systems research aims to generate knowledge and introduce concepts that will bring about transformation. Yet scientific concepts diverge in innumerable ways when they are put to work in the world. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Role of ecological processes in determining effects of contaminants in aquatic ecosystems

    Författare :Anna-Lea Golz; Clare Bradshaw; Karen Kidd; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecosystem approach; ionizing radiation; HBCDD; microcosm; species interactions; indirect effects; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Aquatic ecosystems cover approximately 70% of the Earth’s surface and support a wide range of ecosystem services. Despite their importance, aquatic ecosystems are increasingly exposed to anthropogenic stressors, such as contaminants and climate change impacts. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Psychotropic Pharmaceuticals in Aquatic Systems: An Ecological Perspective

    Författare :Melanie Hedgespeth; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecotoxicology; aquatic; trophic level; pharmaceutical; SSRI; beta-blocker; sertraline; fluoxetine; propranolol; fish; daphnia; snail; predator; prey; behavior; life history; multiple stressor;

    Sammanfattning : Psychotropic pharmaceuticals have been shown to exert a variety of sublethal effects on non-target organisms, even at low concentrations found in the environment (ng/L to µg/L); hence, the aim of my research has been to determine the individual-level effects of psychotropic pharmaceuticals (the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors sertraline and fluoxetine, and the β-blocker propranolol) on behavioral and life history traits in freshwater organisms. Further, this research was directed towards assessing the potential large-scale impacts of these effects on population growth and predator-prey interactions (with community-level implications) via the application of traditional, ecological concepts and models.
