  1. 21. The role of forensic epidemiology in evidence-based forensic medical practice

    Författare :Michael Freeman; Anders Eriksson; Maurice Zeegers; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; forensic epidemiology; forensic medicine; probability; traffic crash; autopsy; logistic regression; Bayes´law; Forensic Medicine; rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine; rättsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives This thesis is based on 4 papers that were all written with the same intent, which was to describe and demonstrate how epidemiologic concepts and data can serve as a basis for improved validity of probabilistic conclusions in forensic medicine (FM). Conclusions based on probability are common in FM, and the validity of probabilistic conclusions is dependant on their foundation, which is often no more than personal experience. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Effects of Flow Structure on Particle Separation in Dissolved Air Flotation

    Författare :Måns Lundh; Institutioner vid LTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; plasma; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; Gases; fluid dynamics; plasmas; Gaser; fluiddynamik; Teknik; Technological sciences; modelling; retention time distribution; acoustic doppler velocimeter; flow structure; separation; water treatment; wastewater treatment;

    Sammanfattning : Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) is a separation process in water and wastewater treatment. The removal function is based on reducing the density of the particle by producing aggregates of the particles and added micro-bubbles of air, thus lifting the aggregates to the water surface, where they can be removed as sludge. Sammanfattning : Future mobile communication networks aim to increase the communication speed, provide better reliability and improve the coverage. It needs to achieve all of these enhancements, while the number of users are increasing drastically. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Developing and evaluating dose calculation models for verification of advanced radiotherapy

    Författare :Jörgen Olofsson; Mikael Karlsson; Anders Ahnesjö; Crister Ceberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation therapy; high-energy photons; dose calculation; multi-source model; pencil kernel; uncertainties; action levels; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Sammanfattning : A prerequisite for modern radiotherapy is the ability to accurately determine the absorbed dose (D) that is given to the patient. The subject of this thesis has been to develop and evaluate efficient dose calculation models for high-energy photon beams delivered by linear accelerators. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Instrumental and methodological developments for isotope dilution analysis of gaseous mercury species

    Författare :Tom Larsson; Erik Björn; Holger Hintelmann; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mercury; gas; species; speciation analysis; isotope dilution analysis; permeation tubes; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with instrumental and methodological developments for speciation analysis of gaseous mercury (Hg(g)), based on isotope dilution analysis (IDA). The studied species include Hg0, (CH3)2Hg, CH3HgX and HgX2 (where X symbolises a negatively charged counter ion in the form of a halide or hydroxyl ion). LÄS MER
