  1. 1. Migration and quality of landlocked Atlantic salmon smolt : Implications for conservation and management

    Författare :Johnny R Norrgård; Eva Bergman; Larry A Greenberg; Monika Schmitz; Martyn Lucas; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acoustic telemetry; hatchery; life history; migration mortality; regulated rivers; Salmo salar; salmon; smolt; trout; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Atlantic salmon Salmo salar has a complex life cycle, including long migrations and habitat shifts for both juveniles and adults. As such, salmon populations are vulnerable to habitat degradation and fragmentation along their migratory routes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Conservation of landlocked Atlantic salmon in a regulated river : Behaviour of migratory spawners and juveniles

    Författare :Anna Hagelin; Eva Bergman; Fleming Ian; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atlantic salmon; conservation; migration; spawning; hydropower; competition; juveniles; brown trout; hatchery reared; fallback; delay; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hydropower dams represent one of the major threats to river ecosystems today. The dams block migratory routes in many rivers, which is problematic for migratory fish species. Trap-and-transport may be an alternative to fish passage solutions, as a strategy to compensate for lost river connectivity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Individual variation in behaviour: personality and performance of brown trout in the wild

    Författare :Bart Adriaenssens; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :behavioural syndromes; personality; life-history; boldness; hatchery; survival; growth; foraging; anti-predator behaviour; learning; brown trout;

    Sammanfattning : Individuals from the same population often show very different behaviour. These differences, when consistent across time, are referred to as animal personality or behavioural syndromes. Explaining the occurrence of animal personality from an evolutionary perspective has however proven a difficult issue to tackle. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Environmental influences on the behavioural ecology of juvenile salmonids – the importance of rearing density

    Författare :Sofia Brockmark; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; rearing density; structural complexity; familiarity; antipredator response; limited attention; social status; growth rate; smolt status; fin erosion; post-release performance; hatchery supplementation; brown trout; Atlantic salmon;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Early environmental conditions are known to influence the phenotypic development of animals, including behavioural alterations. The overall aim of this thesis is to investigate the effects of density, social stability and structural complexity on growth, behaviour, and survival in the wild, using juvenile brown trout (Salmo trutta) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) as model species.
