  1. 11. Characterization of Impaired Glucose Tolerance - Insulin Sensitivity, Islet Function and Metabolic Risk Factors

    Författare :Hillevi Larsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; muscle fiber type; androgen activity; proinsulin; glucagon; insulin secretion; insulin sensitivity; Impaired glucose tolerance; type 2 diabetes; sekretion; diabetologi; Endokrinologi; diabetology; secreting systems;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a three-year prospective study on metabolic characteristics of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and the regulation of insulin sensitivity versus islet function in relation to changes in glucose tolerance. 108 non-diabetic women aged 57-58 years were randomly selected from a population of women born in 1935 with a high prevalence of IGT. 2. 12. The Human Pancreatic Islet Methylome and Its Role in Type 2 Diabetes

    Författare :Tasnim Dayeh; Diabetes - epigenetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CpG-SNP; glucagon secretion; insulin secretion; human pancreatic islets; DNA methylation; Epigenetics;

    Sammanfattning : Islet dysfunction is central to the development and progression of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Epigenetic modifications are essential for establishing and maintaining cell identity and function in normal circumstances. Exposure to adverse environmental factors may alter the epigenome, and result in changes of gene expression and the resulting phenotype. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Control of metabolism and hormone secretion from pancreatic alpha and beta cells

    Författare :Jelena Stamenkovic; Diabetes - molekylär metabolism; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CLOCK genes; insulin; glucagon; metabolites; mitochondria; knock out;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is a multifactorial disease, which has made it difficult to resolve its pathophysiology. We investigated processes that could contribute to the development of T2D. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Exocytosis in Type 2 Diabetes- Functional and genetic studies of hormone secretion

    Författare :Sofia A Andersson; Diabetes - öcellsexocytos; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 Diabetes; Insulin; Glucagon; Alpha-cells; Beta-cells; Exocytosis; Capacitance; SNARE; SNAP25; Syntaxin1A; Synaptotagmin; Munc-18 Stxbp1 ; SNP; Expression; miRNA;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is characterized by dysregulated beta-and alpha-cell hormone secretion leading to elevated blood glucose levels. Several proteins are crucial in maintaining exocytosis of the hormone-containing granules such as Syntaxin1A (Stx1A), SNAP25, Munc-18 (Stxbp1) and the family of Synaptotagmins (Syts). LÄS MER

  5. 15. The Free Fatty Acid Receptor GPR40 - expression and role in islet hormone secretion

    Författare :Erik Flodgren; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; GPCR; Glucagon; GPR40; Insulin; Free fatty acid; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a serious condition of growing proportions. Developing via an increasing imbalance between insulin sensitivity in the peripheral tissues and insulin release from pancreatic beta-cells, it ultimately renders the individual incapable of regulating the blood glucose concentration, e.g. after a meal.
