  1. 11. Basal Vertebrate Divergences from a Molecular Perspective

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Rasmussen; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondrial genomes; Agnatha; Chondrichthyes; vertebrates; evolution; systematics; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : Fishes (Superclass Pisces) constitute the most numerous and morphologically diverse vertebrate group, yet only a small fraction of all molecular evolutionary studies concern piscine evolution. This thesis aims to investigate the vertebrate tree, through the analysis of mitochondrial (mt) DNA sequences. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Endocranial Morphology and Phylogeny of Palaeozoic Gnathostomes (Jawed Vertebrates)

    Författare :Martin D. Brazeau; Per Ahlberg; Graham Budd; Henning Blom; Michael Coates; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; systematics; palaeontology; anatomy; evolution; Organism biology; Organismbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Gnathostomes, or jawed vertebrates, make up the overwhelming majority of modern vertebrate diversity. Among living vertebrates, they comprise the chondrichthyans (“cartilaginous fishes” such as sharks, skates, rays, chimaeras) and the osteichthyans (“bony fishes” or bony vertebrates, inclusive of tetrapods). 3. 13. The mast cell transcriptome and the evolution of granule proteins and Fc receptors

    Författare :Srinivas Akula; Lars Hellman; Sandra Kleinau; Arne Egesten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mast cell; Fc receptors; Granule serine protease; Evolution and transcriptome.; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Protection against disease-causing pathogens, known as immunity, involves numerous cells organs, tissues and their products. To able to understand the biology of immune cells (hematopoietic cells) and their role in an immune system, we have used several different methods, including transcriptome analyses, bioinformatics, production of recombinant proteins and analyses of some of them, focusing on the granule proteases by substrate phage display. 4. 14. Introduced and indigenous macroalgae : Ecological effects, functions and regulating factors in tropical seascapes

    Författare :Maria Eggertsen; Christina Halling; Charlotte Berkström; Johan Eklöf; Jennifer Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; macroalgae; introduced species; coral-algae interactions; nursery habitats; herbivory; Eucheuma denticulatum; tropical seascape; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Tropical marine shallow-water areas are highly productive systems that promote important ecological functions and biodiversity. Stressors on these systems are intensifying due to increasing anthropogenic disturbances on multiple scales. LÄS MER

  5. 15. From behaviour to genes: anti-predator responses of brown trout (Salmo trutta) under winter conditions

    Författare :Karl Filipsson; Eva Bergman; Ann Erlandsson; Martin Österling; Johan Watz; Stefán Óli Steingrímsson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; burbot; climate change; cortisol; diel behaviour; gene expression; HPI axis; light; mRNA; piscivorous; poikilotherm; predator; salmonid; stream; stress; temperature; thermal; winter behaviour; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Temperature has major effects on the performance of poikilotherms. In encounters with predators, low winter temperatures constrain predator detection and escape capabilities in prey fishes. LÄS MER
