  1. 6. From Parasitoids to Gall Inducers and Inquilines : Morphological Evolution in Cynipoid Wasps

    Författare :Hege Vårdal; Fredrik Ronquist; Göran Sahlén; Ulf Jondelius; Nunzio Isidoro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; gall inducer; parasitoid; inquiline; gall induction; morphology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : One of the large lineages of parasitic wasps, the Cynipoidea, exhibits three distinctly different life modes. Slightly more than half of the about 3000 species are parasitoids in insect larvae, whereas the remaining species are associated with plants, either as gall inducers or as inquilines (guests feeding on plant tissue in galls). 2. 7. Teleost reproduction: Aspects of Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) oocyte growth and maturation

    Författare :Håkan Berg; Per-Erik Olsson; Birgitta Norberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Salmonid; oocyte growth; vitellogenin; vitelline envelope protein; stress; cortisol; oocyte maturation; membrane receptor; Zoofysiologi; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; Zoophysiology; zoofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In all vertebrate species, reproduction is a hormonally controlled process, important for growth and maturation of gonads and germ cells. Production of functional germ cells is of outmost importance to secure the survival of a species. Fish comprises 50% of the known vertebrates and are found in aquatic habitats all over the world. 3. 8. Non-invasive Antibody Production in the Chicken

    Författare :Susan L Mayo; Hans-Erik Carlsson; Jann Hau; Torgny Stigbrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Laboratory animal science; Försöksdjursvetenskap; försöksdjursvetenskap comparative medicine; försöksdjursvetenskap comparative medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The production of antibodies for analytical purposes using invasive procedures on small mammals is common practice in biomedical research. The aim of this study was to develop an efficient method for non-invasive antibody production in the chicken. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Roles of ERα and ERβ in Normal and Disrupted Sex Differentiation in Japanese Quail

    Författare :Anna Mattsson; Björn Brunström; Krister Halldin; Lena Sahlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicology; sex differentiation; estrogen receptor; sexual behavior; endocrine disruption; Japanese quail; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Exposure to xenoestrogens during development has been shown to impair sexual differentiation in various species. The major aim of this thesis was to elucidate the respective roles of the two estrogen receptors ERα and ERβ in normal and disrupted differentiation of sex organs and copulatory behavior in the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica). 5. 10. Welfare indicators in laying hens

    Författare :Malin Alm; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : There is a growing concern regarding the welfare of laying hens worldwide and there are both ethical and economic reasons for improving their welfare. Although several different welfare indicators are used today, their ability to accurately reflect welfare status is sometimes questioned. LÄS MER
