1. Biomarkers for Better Understanding of the Pathophysiology and Treatment of Chronic Pain : Investigations of Human Biofluids
Sammanfattning : Chronic pain affects 20 % of the global population, causes suffering, is difficult to treat, and constitutes a large economic burden for society. So far, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of chronic pain-like behaviors in animal models has not translated into effective treatments. LÄS MER
2. Production of polyclonal antibodies in rabbits and chickens immunised with human immunoglobulin G : A study of the utility of egg yolk antibody production as a substitute for rabbit serum antibody production
Sammanfattning : The utility of chicken egg yolk antibodies as an alternative to rabbit antisera was studied by comparing antibody and avidity development in immunised animals (15 rabbits and 30 chickens) during a one-year immunisation scheme. Human IgG was used as the model antigen and the efficacy of three adjuvants, Freund's Complete Adjuvant, Freund's Incomplete Adjuvant and Hunter's TiterMax, was compared. LÄS MER
3. Canine heterophilic antibodies
Sammanfattning : Anamnesis, physical examination and laboratory testing are the pillars of the clinical diagnostic procedure. Alas, laboratory tests are not perfect and analytical errors happen, which can lead to misdiagnosis and detrimental consequences for patient care. LÄS MER
4. Acetylcholine in Spinal Pain Modulation : An in vivo Study in the Rat
Sammanfattning : The spinal cord is an important component in the processing and modulation of painful stimuli. Nerve signals from the periphery are relayed and further conducted to the brain (nociception) in the spinal cord, and the most essential modulation of painful information (antinociception) occurs here. 5. Pathophysiological and Histomorphological Effects of One-Lung Ventilation in the Porcine Lung
Sammanfattning : Thoracic surgical procedures require partial or complete airway separation and the opportunity to exclude one lung from ventilation (one-lung ventilation, OLV). OLV is commonly associated with profound pathophysiological changes that may affect the postoperative outcome. LÄS MER
