  1. 1. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance for Diffusion Imaging Development and evaluation of spin-echo-based pulse sequences for in vivo studies of water self-diffusion

    Författare :Sara Brockstedt; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; perfusion fraction; electrocardiographic triggering; segmented EPI SEPI ; echo-planar imaging EPI ; fast spin-echo FSE ; spin-echo SE ; navigator echoes; phase corrections; diffusion; Magnetic resonance; MRI; ischaemic stroke; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : The interest in diffusion imaging with nuclear magnetic resonance techniques has increased during the last few years. The main reason is the possibility of early diagnosis of acute ischaemic stroke, at a time when conventional MR techniques and computerised tomography fail. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Heart : Image quality, measurement accuracy and patient experience

    Författare :Britt-Marie Ahlander; Jan Engvall; Elisabeth Ericsson; Eva Maret; Marcus Carlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Non-invasive diagnostic imaging of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (CAD) is frequently carried out with cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) or myocardial perfusion single photon emission computed tomography (MPS). CMR is the gold standard for the evaluation of scar after myocardial infarction and MPS the clinical gold standard for ischemia. LÄS MER

  3. 3. NMR Imaging of Flow and Perfusion using Hyperpolarized Nuclei: Theoretical Considerations and Application to Experimental Models

    Författare :Edvin Johansson; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiologi; radiobiology; Nuclear medicine; Perfusion; Macroscopic flow; Hyperpolarized tracers; Nuclear magnetic resonance NMR ; Magnetic resonance imaging MRI ;

    Sammanfattning : In the studies presented in this thesis, hyperpolarized tracers have been used for the study of macroscopic flow and capillary perfusion with magnetic resonance imaging. The feasibility of performing vascular studies using echo-planar imaging (EPI) and hyperpolarized 129Xe was investigated using xenon dissolved in ethanol prior to injection into a flow phantom. 4. 4. Optimisation in strategies in diffusion tensor MR imaging

    Författare :Stefan Skare; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Diffusion tensor; magnetic resonance imaging; optimisation; artefacts;

    Sammanfattning : With diffusion MR imaging, the Brownian motion (or self-diffusion) of water molecules is measured. In the corresponding ADC (Apparent Diffusion Coefficient) image, each image element (voxel) represents the average diffusion. In MRI, the diffusion is measured with diffusion gradients along certain directions in space. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nuclear magnetic resonance and microcirculation: The influence of pulsatile brain-tissue motion on measurements of intravoxel incoherent motion and assessment of haemodynamics using exo- and endogenous tracers

    Författare :Ronnie Wirestam; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diagnostic radiology; cortical activation; diffusion; tumor; tumour; ischemic stroke; ischaemic stroke; tracer kinetics; bolus tracking; phase mapping; brain motion; intracranial dynamics; blood flow; haemodynamics; vascularity; MRS; perfusion; MRI; magnetic resonance; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Sammanfattning : In this project, the potential of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy in studies of microcirculation and haemodynamics was evaluated. The spatial and temporal characteristics of human pulsatile brain-tissue movements in healthy individuals, relevant for the understanding of the cerebrospinal-fluid (CSF) circulation and the pathogenesis of hydrocephalus, were thoroughly investigated.
