16. Force Budget Analysis of Glacier Flow : Ice Dynamical Studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Ice Flow Investigations of Outlet Glaciers in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica
Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to the understanding of glacier response to climate change by ice dynamical studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Bonnevie-Svendsenbreen, Kibergbreen and Plogbreen in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Ice surface velocities, ice geometry and temperature information is fed through a force budget model to calculate ice mass outflux of these glacial systems via three-dimensional stress distributions for a flux-gate. 17. Temporal climate impacts of using willow and logging residues for district heating in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Using bioenergy to replace fossil fuels has been adopted as a climate mitigation measure, since less greenhouse gases are expected to be released into the atmosphere. In Sweden, the share of bioenergy is relative high (about 23% of total consumption including peat), with a relatively large proportion originating from domestically produced forest biomass. LÄS MER
18. Land use GHG emissions and mitigation options, simulated by CoupModel
Sammanfattning : Climate change and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are one of the major challenges to the humankind of 21st Century. This thesis focuses on understanding, estimating and suggesting mitigation of the GHG emissions (mainly N2O and CO2) from the land use sector, specifically from forest ecosystems on drained peatlands but also from willow production on agricultural clay soil. 19. Source apportionment of carbonaceous aerosol - Measurement and model evaluation
Sammanfattning : Aerosol particles are found in the whole troposphere. Research regarding these particles has gained increased attention because of the effect the particles have on both health and climate. In the atmosphere, aerosol particles scatter incoming solar radiation and this has a cooling effect on the Earth’s climate. LÄS MER
20. A planetary chamber to investigate the thermal and water cycle on Mars
Sammanfattning : The water processes that affect the upper layers of the surface of Mars are not yet fully understood. Describing the processes that may induce changes in the water content ofthe surface is critical to determine the present-day habitability of the Martian surface, understand the atmospheric water cycle, and estimate the efficiency of future water extraction procedures from the regolith for In-Situ-Resource-Utilization (ISRU).
