  1. 21. Energy Efficiency in Winter Road Maintenance - A Road Climatological Perspective

    Författare :Lina Nordin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Road climate; RWIS; frost; snow; fuel consumption; heavy-duty vehicles; route optimisation programme; energy efficiency; winter road maintenance;

    Sammanfattning : Practices in winter road maintenance are dependent on the climate and weather impacting roads and the road users’ requirements. As in many other fields of transportation, it is of interest to investigate fuel efficiency potentials in the different aspects of the road maintenance area. LÄS MER

  2. 22. On the solubility of radium sulfate and carbonate

    Författare :Artem Matyskin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dissolution; thermodynamics; radium sulfate; radium carbonate; solubility product; precipitation;

    Sammanfattning : Radium is one of the most toxic elements and its concentration in different human activities and migration from man-made wastes provokes a strong interest in environmental science. To be able to model the migration process, reliable experimental thermodynamic data of radium compounds are needed. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Modelling impact climate-related change on the thermal responses of lakes

    Författare :Ana I. Ayala; Donald C. Pierson; Stéphane Goyette; Andreas Lorke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Modelling; climate change; lakes; thermal structure; surface heat fluxes; extreme events;

    Sammanfattning : In response to climate-related changes, lakes worldwide have experienced warmer surface water temperatures, shorter ice cover periods and changes in lake stratification. As these aspects of lake dynamics exert substantial control over nutrient availability, oxygenation and biogeochemical cycling, predicting changes in lake water temperature and stratification dynamics can improve our understanding of the consequences of warming on lake ecosystems. 4. 24. Influence of thermal mass on the heating and cooling demands of a building unit

    Författare :Fredrik Ståhl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal mass; environmental impact; thermal comfort; heat storage; life cycle; building energy use; earth tube heat exchanger; comfort interval; heavy or light buildings; building structure;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this work is to find to what extent the thermal properties of the building materials, the allowed indoor temperature swing, determined by the comfort interval, and, to some extent, the ventilation strategy can affect the heating and cooling demand of a building. It is well known that a thermally heavy building, that is a building with a high heat capacity, often demands less energy for heating and cooling and have a more stabile indoor temperature due to heat storage in the building structure. 5. 25. High altitude ion heating observed by the Cluster spacecraft

    Författare :Martin Waara; Hans Nilsson; Kristina Lynch; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space physics; Rymdfysik; rymd- och plasmafysik; Space and Plasma Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with heating of outowing oxygen ions at high altitude above the polar cap using data from the Cluster spacecraft. oInospheric plasma may flow up from the ionosphere but at velocities which are low enough that the ions are still gravitationally bound. For the ions to overcome gravity, further acceleration is needed. LÄS MER
