21. Life course determinants of coronary heart disease and stroke in middle-aged Swedish men
Sammanfattning : The general aim of the thesis was to study how socioeconomic and behaviour-related factors measured in childhood, late adolescence or adulthood are related to coronary heart diseae (CHD) and stroke in middle age among Swedish men. The life course approach was central to the aim, and the potential impact of socioeconomic differences in adulthood among the men was considered throughout. LÄS MER
22. Genetic determinants of breast cancer risk
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis was to identify genetic risk factors using both hypothesis-based and hypothesis-free approaches. In an attempt to identify common disease susceptibility alleles for breast cancer, we started off with a hypothesis-free approach, and performed a combined analysis of three genome-wide association studies (GWAS), involving 2,702 women of European ancestry with invasive breast cancer and 5,726 controls. 23. Growth hormones in chronic kidney disease
Sammanfattning : Several hormonal systems are disrupted in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and disturbances of the growth hormone axis could contribute to increased morbidity and mortality through effects on cardiovascular health, energy metabolism and inflammation. The overall aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about hormonal alterations and their consequences in CKD, focusing on cardiovascular disease (CVD), mortality and the growth hormone axis in end-stage renal disease. 25. Development of cardiovascular disease risk in middle-aged men. The Cardiovascular Risk Factor Study in Southern Sweden, CRISS
Sammanfattning : The Cardiovascular Risk Factor Study in Southern Sweden, CRISS, was initiated to explore if men at increased risk at developing CVD risk factors can be identified already before age 40. Starting in 1990 two birth cohorts of men residing in Helsingborg, Sweden, were surveyed at age 37 (n=991, participation rate 68%), at age 40 (n=770) and age 43 (n=702), respectively. LÄS MER
