  1. 16. Processes and factors governing benthic community dynamics—environmental change in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Christian Sommer; Sara Sjöling; Patrik Dinnétz; Inger Porsch Hällström; Alexander Eiler; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Benthic communities; Baltic Sea; biodiversity; community composition; environmental change; environmental genomics; microbial ecology; Major Baltic Inflow; meta-population; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : As drivers of biogeochemical cycles and nutrient recycling, such as carbon turnover, the microbial community is essential in sustaining functioning ecosystems. Together with the metazoan community, the microbial community constitute the majority of all life in the benthos. LÄS MER

  3. 18. On the colloidal and molecular aspects of peptide self-assembly

    Författare :Axel Rüter; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Peptide self-assembly; Aggregation kinetics; Peptide hydrogel; Small angle scattering; Rheology;

    Sammanfattning : Peptide self-assembly is a spontaneous process, ubiquitous in nature for the creation of highly ordered and complex biological structures, making it a sought after technique in the development of novel biocompatible materials. The process is also strongly associated with various neurodegenerative diseases in the formation of amyloid plaques in diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, where fully functioning proteins aggregate are reassembled into nonfunctional fibrillar aggregates that eventually lead to cell death. 4. 19. The role of regeneration in plant niche differentiation and habitat specialization

    Författare :Dirk-Jan ten Brink; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seed mass; seed size; drought; shade; seed germination; seed dormancy; seedling establishment; plant community ecology; assembly rules; habitat specialization; plant recruitment; Regeneration; niche differentiation; phylogenetic independent contrasts; plant traits; soil fertility; comparative ecology;

    Sammanfattning : To predict the effects of environmental change and nature management on the distribution of plant species, it is crucial to understand the mechanisms of plant niche differentiation and habitat specialization. The importance to habitat specialization of particular plant traits and requirement of the regenerative phase of the plants life has received scanty interest. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Composition and dynamics of the bacterial community in aerobic granular sludge reactors

    Författare :Enikö Barbara Szabo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; qPCR; sequencing batch reactors; microbial community composition; T-RFLP; functional groups; Illumina MiSeq; wastewater; aerobic granular sludge; nitrogen removal; population dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : The aerobic granular sludge (AGS) technology is probably the future standard for wastewater treatment, due to its low footprint and low energy consumption. Although achieving granulation is usually not a challenge anymore, our understanding of the community assembly during start-up, and of the microbial ecology of these reactors in general, is incomplete.
