  1. 1. Nitrogen removal in treatment wetlands : Factors influencing spatial and temporal variations

    Författare :Sofia Kallner Bastviken; Karin Sundblad-Tonderski; Jos Verhoeven; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Wetlands; denitrification; macrophytes; nitrogen; nitrification; model; treatment wetlands; potential denitrification; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Decreasing the nitrogen transport from land to surrounding seas is a major task throughout the world to limit eutrophication of the coastal areas. Several approaches are currently used, including the establishment of wetlands, to decrease the transport of nitrogen. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. Författare :Björn Halvarsson; Bengt Carlsson; Elling Jacobsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; activated sludge process; biological nitrogen removal; bioreactor models; control structure design; cost-efficient operation; decentralized control; interaction measures; minimum variance control; multivariable control; wastewater treatment; Automatic control; Reglerteknik; Elektroteknik med inriktning mot reglerteknik; Electrical Engineering with specialization in Automatic Control;

    Sammanfattning : Many control systems of practical importance are multivariable. In such systems, each manipulated variable (input signal) may affect several controlled variables (output signals) causing interaction between the input/output loops. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Anammox-based systems for nitrogen removal from mainstream municipal wastewater

    Författare :Andriy Malovanyy; Elzbieta Plaza; Adriano Joss; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Nitrogen removal from municipal wastewater with the application of deammonification process offers an operational cost reduction, especially if it is combined with a maximal use of organic content of wastewater for biogas production. In this thesis, two approaches for integration of the deammonification process into the municipal wastewater treatment scheme were studied. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Use of chemical denitrification for nitrogen removal from landfill leachates

    Författare :Aleksandra Nikolic; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Chemical denitrification; conductivity; evaporation drying; freezing thawing; leachate; nitrogen removal;

    Sammanfattning : Landfill leachate usually has a high concentration ofammonium nitrogen and heavy metals, but too low alkalinitycontent for full biological nitrification, as well as a too lowconcentration of biologically degradable organic carbon forbiological denitrification, and at the same time very variablecomposition (quantity and quality) with time. These factorsresult in serious problems for treating leachate with existingsystems. LÄS MER
