1. Processes and factors governing benthic community dynamics—environmental change in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : As drivers of biogeochemical cycles and nutrient recycling, such as carbon turnover, the microbial community is essential in sustaining functioning ecosystems. Together with the metazoan community, the microbial community constitute the majority of all life in the benthos. LÄS MER
2. Mass balance of perfluoroalkyl acids in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are man-made chemicals. Their unique properties make them beneficial for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications, such as constituents in fire fighting foams, hydraulic oils and food packaging materials. LÄS MER
3. Holocene environmental changes recorded by diatom stratigraphy in the southern Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Sediment cores from the southern Baltic Sea and the Oder River estuary are analysed for their siliceous microfossil assemblages and organic carbon content. Long piston cores from the Bornholm and Gotland Basins provide data on the long-term Holocene history of the Baltic proper and serve as a natural background when evaluating the most recent environmental changes recorded in the short gravity cores. 4. Phytoplankton drivers in a marine system influenced by allochthonous organic matter – the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Climate change scenarios predict that seawater temperature and precipitation will increase in the Baltic Sea region during the next century. In the northern part of the Baltic Sea, increasing inflows of the terrestrial allochthonous dissolved organic matter (ADOM) are expected to be a major consequence of elevated rainfall, which can alter light and nutrient availability for phytoplankton. 5. Holocene and Latest Glacial Paleoceanography in the North-Eastern Skagerrak
Sammanfattning : Detailed information on past oceanographic and climatic changes is crucial for our understanding of natural climate variability and for the assessment of future climate variations. Sediments strongly influenced by the North Atlantic Current accumulate at high rates in the northeastern Skagerrak, forming a potential highresolution archive for information on past climatic and oceanographic processes and events.
