  1. 1. Hypothermia and radiation. Effects on DNA, chromatin and cellular survival

    Författare :Kerstin Elmroth; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cells; temperature; irradiation; dsb; survival; fluorescent nucleoid assay; hypothermia;

    Sammanfattning : The effect of ionising radiation on cells can be modulated by several physico-chemical factors. The aim of this study was to investigate if hypothermic (sub-physiological) temperatures (2°C-28°C) may influence the effect of X-rays on cellular damage in human normal fibroblasts and in a human breast adenocarcinoma cell line, MCF-7. 2. 2. Intrinsic radiosensitivity and molecular targets for tumour radiosensitization of head and neck cancer. With special reference to chromosomal instability and pentoxifylline

    Författare :Anna Danielsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :radiosensitivity; clonogenic survival; radio-sensitizer; chromosomal instability; cell cycle regulation; G2 checkpoint; pentoxifylline;

  3. 3. Radiation-induced apoptosis in human lymphocytes : studies on expression, function and effects of different radiation qualities

    Författare :Annelie Meijer; Fabrizio Palitti; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apoptosis; clonogenic survival; growth factors; chromosomal aberrations CA ; low dose-rate LDR ; linear energy transfer LET ; relative biological effectiveness RBE ; radio sensitivity; ataxia telangiectasia A-T ; Physical Biology; fysikalisk biologi;

    Sammanfattning : We are constantly exposed to radiation. Radiation causes damage to our cells. By the removal of damaged and unwanted cells, apoptosis is considered to be one of the most indispensable defence processes for a multi-cellular organism. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ultrasound, ions and combined modalities for increased local tumour cell death in radiation therapy

    Författare :Annica Jernberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Focused ultrasound; ionising radiation; high-LET; cisplatin; combined modalities; cell survival; cellular effects;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, new approaches to improve tumour therapy for patients with inoperable, radiation- and chemoresistant tumours were in focus. Ultrasound and ionising radiation, especially accelerated ions, are both non-invasive agents that have high precision and deep penetration in tissues, enabling increased dose to the tumour while sparing the normal tissues. 5. 5. LRIG1 in lung cancer : prognostic effects and mechanistic studies

    Författare :Samuel Kvarnbrink; Mikael Johansson; Håkan Hedman; Odd Terje Brustugun; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lung cancer; metastasis; prognosis; LRIG1; LRIG3; LMO7; LIMCH1; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide as well as in Sweden. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the predominant form, which is largely subdivided into adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas. LÄS MER
