  1. 1. Role of Non-Homologous End-Joining in Repair of Radiation-Induced DNA Double-Strand Breaks

    Författare :Karin Karlsson; Bo Stenerlöw; Jörgen Carlsson; Thomas Helleday; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular biology; DNA damage; DNA repair; DSB; NHEJ; DNA-PK; ionising radiation; high-LET; heat-labile sites; PFGE; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Efficient and correct repair of DNA damage, especially DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), is vital for the survival of individual cells and organisms. Defects in the DNA repair may lead to cell death or genomic instability and development of cancer. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cellular effects after exposure to mixed beams of ionizing radiation

    Författare :Elina Staaf; Andrzej Wojcik; Siamak Haghdoost; Eva Forssell-Aronsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ionizing radiation; high LET; low LET; mixed beams; combined exposure; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Mixed beams of ionizing radiation in our environment originate from space, the bedrock and our own houses. Radiotherapy patients treated with boron neutron capture therapy or with high energy photons are also exposed to mixed beams of gamma radiation and neutrons. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Fundamental studies on high-LET radiation induced DNA damage in vitro and transcriptional responses in vivo

    Författare :Britta Langen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : .... LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ultrasound, ions and combined modalities for increased local tumour cell death in radiation therapy

    Författare :Annica Jernberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Focused ultrasound; ionising radiation; high-LET; cisplatin; combined modalities; cell survival; cellular effects;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, new approaches to improve tumour therapy for patients with inoperable, radiation- and chemoresistant tumours were in focus. Ultrasound and ionising radiation, especially accelerated ions, are both non-invasive agents that have high precision and deep penetration in tissues, enabling increased dose to the tumour while sparing the normal tissues. 5. 5. Induction and repair of DNA double-strand breaks in human cells exposed to different radiation qualities

    Författare :Irina Radulescu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :DSB; chromatin structure; high-LET; heat-labile sites; PFGE; DNA-PKcs; XRCC1; PARP-1; pATM; gamma-H2AX; 53BP1;

    Sammanfattning : Radiation therapy is used in attempting to kill tumor cells by inducing DNA double- strand breaks (DSB), the most critical DNA lesions. Recent and planned radiation therapy strategies use high-linear energy transfer (LET) radiation to effectively treat malignant tumors. LÄS MER
