  1. 11. Arsenic-induced protein aggregation and toxicity in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Sansan Hua; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arsenic; Protein aggregation; Protein quality control; Yeast;

    Sammanfattning : Arsenic is prevalent in the environment and this toxic metalloid poses a substantial threat to human health with 100-200 million people worldwide estimated to be at risk. Chronic exposure to arsenic is associated with neurodegenerative and age-related disorders that are characterized by the accumulation of protein aggregates, including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. 2. 12. Neurotoxic Effects of Dichlorophenyl Methylsulphones Related to Olfactory Mucosal Lesions

    Författare :Carina Carlsson; Ingvar Brandt; Hans Tjälve; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; olfcatory toxicity; olfactory bulb; aryl methylsulphone; neurotoxicity; QSAR; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; Ecotoxicology; Ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the highly potent olfactory mucosa toxicant 2,6-dichlorophenyl methylsulphone (2,6-diClPh-MeSO2) and its non-toxic 2,5-chlorinated isomer (2,5-diClPh-MeSO2). In mice, both substances bind firmly in the olfactory mucosa and the olfactory bulb, which are important components of the sensory system. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Metal homeostasis as critical determinant for cellular fitness

    Författare :Jutta Diessl; Sabrina Büttner; Rajini Rao; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metal homeostasis; manganese toxicity; coenzyme Q synthesis; mitochondrial respiration; calcineurin signaling; Pmr1; SPCA1; calcium; survival; caloric restriction; Parkinson’s disease models; proteotoxicity; Pep4; cathepsin D; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Metals play a crucial role in cellular biology. Bulk and trace metals such as calcium and manganese regulate a plethora of cellular processes ranging from signaling and oxidative stress to proteostasis and energy metabolism. LÄS MER

  4. 14. The Xenopus tropicalis model for developmental endocrine and reproductive toxicity : Histological and molecular endpoints for disrupted spermatogenesis

    Författare :Sofie Svanholm; Cecilia Berg; Oskar Karlsson; Valérie Langlois; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocrine disrupting chemicals; Reproductive toxicology; Developmental toxicology; Spermatogenesis; Transgenerational; Xenopus tropicalis; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are linked to adverse effects in both humans and wildlife. There are however, large knowledge gaps regarding cause-effect and dose-response relationships between the interference with endocrine pathways and adverse effects in the organism, especially at puberty and in subsequent generations. 5. 15. Toxicity of metal containing micro- and nanoparticles : studies from an inhalation perspective

    Författare :Johanna Kain; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Particles in urban environments have for a long time been associated with different health problems and diseases, such as worsening of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as well as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, metal containing particles present in occupational settings and industries, particularly particles produced during welding, have been linked to several adverse health effects. LÄS MER
